Thats very interesting...

The 3-inch (7.6-cm), flesh-colored crustacean can lie dormant for years, even decades, in egg form, emerging only when infrequent rains and runoff fill the desert lakes of southwestern Idaho. Then it goes amok, eating, mating and laying eggs before another dry spell descends.

Life never ceases to amaze me.

I envision an encounter with one of those things looking something like this:

From the article it doesn't mention where these shrimp were found. If they were found in Idaho they must be fresh water right?

I didn't know of fresh water shrimp. Otherwise, I find it iteresting that there are cannibalistic shrimp.

I can believe the article. If bugs can be carnivourous why can't shrimp?

I did a little further reading on these guys. They have spikes on their abdomens, so if they are full from eating other fairy shrimp, and they catch some more food they will bite the food, probably not enough to kill it, then stick the shrimp on one of the spikes and eat it later. They can store up to 4 snacks this way. By the way, they are eating mostly other types of Fairy shrimp.

That they store food on spikes reminds of the game giants: citzen kabuto

LOL so I wasn't the only one that thought they looked like face-huggers (the scene came into my mind of the face huggers in those tubes in "Aliens")
