Second Article by The New York Times on ufos

We admire what the great anthropologist Margaret Mead said when asked long ago whether she believed in U.F.O.s. She called it “a silly question,” writing in Redbook in 1974:

“Belief has to do with matters of faith; it has nothing to do with the kind of knowledge that is based on scientific inquiry. … Do people believe in the sun or the moon, or the changing seasons, or the chairs they’re sitting on? When we want to understand something strange, something previously unknown to anyone, we have to begin with an entirely different set of questions. What is it? How does it work?”

That’s what the Pentagon U.F.O. program has been focusing on, making it eminently newsworthy. And to be clear: U.F.O.s don’t mean aliens. Unidentified means we don’t know what they are, only that they demonstrate capabilities that do not appear to be possible through currently available technology.

the 64k question is, do they have a craft? or part of a craft? or anything resembling a craft? Or just fragments that might prove to be meteorites or slug waste? Articles are great but at some point we need to see the goods

But in this case we have no problem responding, “No, we don’t believe in U.F.O.s.”
As we see it, their existence, or nonexistence, is not a matter of belief.

That sounds like keeping an open mind for the theological question , to ease the minds of the clerics ..

Maybe all of the ageing dudes really believe there is an alien craft hidden somewhere. The more they were told to go away and there was nothing there. The more they believed there was. Now they've infected a whole host of others to believe in it too.

It's all very American centric though and the people involved all seem to have links back to the same old gang. Kean>Mellon>Puthoff>NIDS>BIgelow>Vegas UFO Mafia.

Lets hope that this story continues getting attention and we get some EVIDENCE/PROOF of this so called material and like member IMSAM said, is it a craft, part of a craft or really just some meteorite fragment or slag*?

I doubt they care about clerics; they are, most likely, ardent athiests. I see it as a statement they believe in nothing and only trust their scientists and observable facts.

We don't even know if they're telling the truth when they say that have anything. There's no law saying they can't lie.
