Hm... Wondering what's going on.

I've looked at various DDoS attack map sites and they are all showing attacks but I can't gauge if the hits are abnormally high or not.

My internet in the US Midwest is definitely getting slowed down and I'm getting rolling error codes on various sites.

I've seen some grumbling on various social media that this is hitting Europe as well.

Wonder who it is? China, Iran, Russia?

Anyone else noticing anything?

Fun site to watch the attacks happen: threatmap.fortiguard.com...

Update according to Cloudflare:

This afternoon we saw an outage across some parts of our network. It was not as a result of an attack. It appears a router on our global backbone announced bad routes and caused some portions of the network to not be available. We believe we have addressed the root cause and monitoring systems for stability now.

So was it all Cloudflare or something else that attacked Cloudflare?

I'm able to get to sites and then minutes later they go down.
It's definitely rolling across the globe.

Cloudflare was down. Many, many websites use cloudflare.

I was just coming to say it looks like it might have been a DNS with cloudflare.

Thanks

Wondering if Cloudflare will say what exactly happened.

There has been a significant, documented increase in DDoS attacks since last year which Nexusguard attributes to the vast increase in people working from home since the pandemic took off

I'm seeing a lot of San Francisco "under attack".

The answer could be absolutely mundane. Deliberate stress testing by site maintenance. But probably not.

On a side note, many app services like Uber, Lyft, and especially Postmates have experienced technical issues today and this week. All SF based servers i believe. This site is cool in any case.

Yes, it's a perfect storm to knock out the internet and no one can work, figure out what's happening and then goes crazy because social media is out and Netflix isn't working.

Food for thought there,

Otherwise, I have lost my PC sound, and trying to recover it, no luck so far. Good thinking anyway.

Aside from the Cloudflare issue, that's not an abnormal amount of DDoS attacks. There are some abnormal targets right now from what I'm seeing, but nothing near the volume of some of the big ones recently. The Arbor map is one of my favorites for watching these things - www.digitalattackmap.com...

To add,
A huge spike is noted at around 10.30pm today, perhaps ongoing somewhere else,

I do a regular circuit of sites throughout the day. It's all Cloudflare, all giving out 505. So Cloudflare goes from me to the hub in Detroit and then after that it fails. One site is overseas, one is in Atlanta and my site (see below) is in Utah. All down at the same time.

All is okay until it hits the server and that's where the failure is occuring.

However. My site also went down and it is low, low traffic and doesn't use cloudflare. I got a "URL does not exist."

So, yeah, something is going on. I doubt if it's a DDOS, this feels more like a backbone attack issue to me.

I had troubles with several sites, ATS was not one of them.
I could not even get to isitdown.com....it seemed to be down as well.

About 5:30-5:45 EDT.
