With the possibility of ats shutting down I was wondering if there was any interest in a subreddit even if it’s a temporary measure. I’ve been a member of this site for over 10 years under a few names. I mostly lurked but this place and the people on here have become a familiar and welcomed part of my day. I would hate to lose that. Please leave your thoughts.

id participate. Already on reddit under this username. don't cringe at my posting history...its mostly just bad dad jokes and things id usually not say in as polite company as ATS. But i'd absolutely participate, with the decorum and civility that i've participated here.

I cannot see why this website should shutdown...
a .com website cost around 10 dollars a year.
IF it does shut down, I would think it is pressure from unknown sources or blackmail involved.

Clicked on........

As I have done with the many links given recently, and what none of the links

do is like ATS in as much as the way the board is set up its not like joining in a

conversation.

Here on ATS reading when not signed in 'a whole thread' runs like conversations

dates tell you when a post was written etc. where as on other sites (I dont know

if it is because I'm not signed in) it seems very disjointed and user unfriendly?

Not being IT savvy
I'm visualising difficulties.

Not really a fan of Reddit, the layout of threads seems disjointed and I cannot get used to it.

As I pointed out in my post above!!

ATS is like being among friends in a home setting.......

All other sites are like being at an AA (alcohol anon) meeting

Edit a disclaimer..... Never been to an AA meeting

once you get used to the flow of how it lays out, you will find it to be superior in many regards for being able to converse, etc. But its not an intuitive format.

Reddit has some major drawbacks. For one...the site has porn on it. Its not a ton, but its there and easily searched. Im not averse to porn, mind you...i just like to keep the socks in the sock drawer.

Another is the downvote feature. I've spent most of my 2+ years there at -99 karma (as low as you can get). What i learned was that my opinion is very unpopular. Reddit seems to hate centrists just as much as alt right. It wouldn't matter to me, but most of Reddit has karma thresh holds before you can participate. Im finally up close to 1000 by not participating in anything other than crappy one liners on memes. A couple of the reddits i want to participate in will require 5k or so, so i have a bit to go. The upside is that 1000 has come through comments in the last 5 days. While i tell dad jokes, i am still pretty funny i guess.

The last is that if that sub fires up with ATS members as we see today, we will end up as a poster child for left hate. They sit around and bitch about anything that isn't rahrahliberals. Every misstatement or comment that is even remotely able to be interpreted as racist will be amplified by them. They will brigade us. They will post screenshots of things we discuss to ridicule us in their own subreddits. I can see that large conflict will eventually ensue, and it may all unravel because of that.

I see I'm not the only one thinking that.

Maybe someone made a good offer.

It has been stated a few times in other threads, the traffic and storage of media take up a lot of resources. Cut out that and the price drops dramatically. I suggested dropping a few forums (political and religious) and not allowing uploads because that's where most of the traffic is and those aren't really necessary for UFO and most conspiracy discussions.

Thought has crossed my mind, after all, deny ignorance. These days I could see factions wanting to shut it down, even internally, for various reasons.

Reddit is the only way to go.

In the end everyone wants discussion right?
People can moderate the sub as they see fit.

Some subs are free for alls and others are pretty strict.

I see the administrator going to a bunker. I see ATS became a conspiracy. Some of us feel like Mel Gibson on "Braveheart", when the nobles left him fighting alone.

Not really doing that, just hedging my bets.
Even if ATS is sold, it may be some time before all the updates and code changes are complete.
Even admin need outlets during downtimes

I have NO Plans to leave ATS.
