God must really hate this place

Fort McMurray as of a few days ago:
Fort McMurray devastated by floods

The flooding came as the melting of a 25km-long ice jam poured into the valley.

What next? Fort McMurray devastated by meteor impact?

Floods are relatively common after forest fires, as the lack of vegetation allows the water to flow faster.

I believe this was caused by an ice flow backup.

Poor bastards!

www.rmwb.ca...

McMac's flood mitigation plan, and current status of it. They were at least trying to mitigate this regular issue.

And, these houses are built on a flood plain.

Ouch, this is awful for them.

Were not as far north as Fort Mac., but our little area of Alberta is under a severe weather warning for heavy rains and wind, possibly turning to snow. The area downtown near the Athabasca river always floods when we get heavy rains.

Insurance companies are taking a excrement knockin. Good.
I pray for the people and their homes, I hope everyone is safe. This is an awful time to go thru this, but they are tough.
God bless.

Screw them.....they don't have to be there and they are the privelaged few anyways and always have been ….Ft Mac is full of filthy rich people....its like the Wild West.... its a really screwed up place where Indiginous Grannies are gifted jobs because the men in their Families refuse to work.....so you literally have women in their 60s "working" in this World Class Refinery Town......and to keep this work-share deal running they let the Grannies sleep in offices and force everyone else to pick up their slack....its a crazy place...where money is everywhere....horrible drug problems horrible working conditions … its a dump.

Likely one of the richest places in Canada per capita.

Its a cess pool.

Ice jams and floods usually happen in places where the rivers flow north. Fargo ND usually has floods every other year. I was in that area one year during the flood season and the farm fields were flooded as far as the eye could see. But the road was built up and was a couple of feet above the water. Fun time.

But the You tube video of the house burning down on the skype cam was a bit unreal.
