I have looked up cat behaviour and it is common for cats to lift their tail exposing their rear as a way of saying hello
But my Maggy constantly rubs her bottom in my face

She walks up to me lifts her table and brushes her bottom against me

Is this normal behaviour

Id appreciate sensible replies

It has everything to do with "marking."

They have glands just inside the rectum, they excrete substances they use for the task. It is similar to the head and chin rubbing. Theyre making and receiving "notes."

Missus does this to me every morning...

In general..

The only way to really define "normal" with a cat is whether or not that particular cat does that particular thing frequently.

So, if yer cat always does something bafflingly bizarre: totally normal. If, at 12 years old, they start doing some bafflingly bizzarre.. Might want to look into it. But, it could still be "normal."

Cats are wierd as f&#$. Gotta create a baseline for each individual! In this case though, like others have said, its likely related to marking.

Typically, cats that are "fixed" a bit later in life will exhibit some of these behaviors more strongly.

Why are you letting the cat rub their bottom on you.

I understand presenting is an hello? Just say hi give them a rub and shoo them off.

Headbutts or buttwipes ?
Both are unpleasant.

Between the "What color should the anus be" thread, and this thread, this poster doesn't quite sit well with me. There seems to be a focused fascination with a feline's rear end going on.
