As an Englishman who worked on the Hawk, Tornado and Typhoon (not on the tools) I have a bias towards our Aircraft, indeed the English Electric Lightning was breaking these records in the '60's, the Canberra was (is) an amazing aircraft still and the V-Bombers were stand out!

However, respect to all who engineer these amazing machines!

Yes, the Arrow is tied to every project that came after it. The US stole the data because they couldn't design their own planes and desperately needed it.

It depends. If you're from the UK, then it was. If you're Canadian, it was the Arrow.

The Blackbird actually. There's a fair amount of "If they could do that in the 60s imagine what they can do now".

The Avenger...Oxcart was the daddy...or mummy..of the SR71 but the Avenger was the one I think was America’s TSR2 or Arrow...all had political issues which featured in their demise I feel...a reply to: Zaphod58

Avenger was interesting, but it wasn't really revolutionary. It was a pretty natural evolution of a stealth design.

C'mon.

The American equivalent of the Arrow or TSR2 is the YF-23, Zaph.

I can see that argument too. But I hear "If they built the SR-71 then....." far more often.

That’s the more modern era I think...i suppose the Avenger is that era too..if we go back a few years to the same as the TSR and the Arrow maybe it would be the F107 or 108...?!? a reply to: anzha

I've always thought the F-15 to be the most beautiful airplane ever made.

That picture has some dimensional trickery to it. If you look at the rear, it looks as if the aircraft is facing away from the camera, but if you look at the nose, it sort of looks like it's facing towards the camera. or maybe I need to stop by the optometrist.

No need for the optometrist, I see it too. That's a pretty cool effect.
