Obviously this is probably an over generalization, but I’m not sure it still might not be true....

Also just to set the stage, I was looking into the accounts of the military MAYBE covering up rapes and murders after the perpetrator makes her death look like a suicide...

Well on fist thought , it seemed crazy.. a big percentage of the males their are almost certainly “hero complex types” ... guys in shape and trained in combat that NUST COULDN'T WAIT TO FLY IN AND SAVE THE DAY FOR A FEMALE COMRADE!!!

But the more I think about it...

What could be worse for the military than their female soldiers being raped!?!?!?

There is one thing....

The whole world knowing they are letting their female soldiers be raped...

Would the military cover up for some horrible rapist??
Doubtful!!

Do they want the headline news to read “solder rapes and murders soldier” on a weekly or monthly basis?!!!

Absolutely not...

Hell I could see them executing the perp and still covering it up before wanting it public , over and over again..

But anyway I depress..

So what kind of people do y’all think choose the jobs that require the use of violence on other human beings as their main job function??

I figure there are really MAINLY only 2 kinds of people, and 2 subsets of those groups...

1) legit risk their lives to save a friend or stranger, type Heroes
A) wanna be hero’s... people who think they wanna be hero’s, but really don’t have the stomach for what might be required..

2) Real hard core bullies... including full scale psychopaths, people who legit take pleasure out of causing pain , god complex types..

B) people who wish they were bullies, but really don’t have the courage to go full bore..

And I’m just not sure how much of the spectrum you get in between..

Well assuming that is the case, what percentage of average Americans would fall into the legit hero category???

If even 10% of adult males are legit hero types I would be shocked..

So does that mean, without considering the instances of extremely good leadership (that makes all the difference) that the majority would fall into the bully category?????

Just by the math?!?

Are women in the military a bad idea because combat attracts hard core bullies, and bullies cannot be trusted in isolated situations where the women are so outnumbered that they are just the objects of desire for too many people not to hook some psychopaths?!?!

Anyway,,,
Why would you think that cops and soldiers all want to be heroes?
Could it be that most of them want to be helpful in maintaining the peace?

Pretty sure most do it because they love their country and want to give back and be part of something bigger than themselves. Some answer the call, most don’t. In a world of sheep and wolves, they choose to be a sheep dog.

The military is made up of all different kinds of people.

People join the military for a multitude of reasons. The ones you listed are probably pretty low. I've grown up in a military family and am pretty much surrounded by military folks.

Here's the real reason /types of people:
A job
Help with schooling / GI Bill
Able to travel
people that don't know what to do with their lives
people that think they will get more attention from the opposite sex

types of people
regular people just like any other profession

As a kid growing up in the 70's (born 1965) I did not know much about my dads military service.

I remember reading about the Army Rangers scaling the mountains on D-Day.

That is when I learned I wanted to be an Army Ranger.

Absolutely nobody in the military or law-enforcement likes dropping bombs or shooting people but sometimes they just have to.

Every profession has it's share of sociopaths...

My father was a cop. He tried to adopt a kid he kept arresting at a mall. Kid obviously came from a sh*tty home. He once delivered a baby. We didn't even know about it until we just happened to see him on the news being interviewed. He just figured it was "just another day at work."

The vast majority of people just like helping others. It is a job and they will put their lives on the line to save yours.

Yes, there are some loony sociopaths that become cops or in the military. Part of it I think is because in some ways, you have to agree to be cannon fodder. These are also govt bureaucracies, so intelligence is sometimes not rewarded. It is about following orders / commands. Not what is necessarily right or logical.

To be honest, I am surprised anyone would subject themselves to being a cop or in the military. Have you seen how the public behaves? The degenerates and nut bags cops have to deal with on a daily basis?

Deny ignorannce Johnny Boy. The vast majority of military jobs do not involve the type of job you describe. I joined to learn a skill and travel. Worked on Minutemen ICBM's and allkinds of fighter/bomber aircraft.

I think your perception of my fellow sisters and brothers is shamefully ignorant.

If you were looking into them you should have some links to discuss. I’m inclined not to believe you. But I’ll give you a chance .

Let’s see them.

That’s where I quit reading you seem to be obsessed it’s a little disturbing. You need to supply links to your horrible accusations or this should be in a hoax bin.

Ummm...I joined the military because the bottom always fell out of the construction trade in the winter months...

Nothing altruistic about my reasons...just selfish economics...

I did totally love the challenge...both physically and mentally...

I spent many years doing both, i was a military policeman in the British army. Mostly police work, a couple of years doing other stuff alongside various infantry units.

I can't speak for other countries police, whether civilian or military, but i know anyone who committed rape or violence against a women was dumped on from the highest of heights. It was not tolerated and certainly not allowed or covered up.

The kind of pond life who do that sort of thing came along once in a blue moon and were dealt with as they should be. In accordance with the law and not leniently.

I can only speak about my own situation, but i was taught to always help people growing up. I went to cubs here in the UK, then scouts, then army cadets, throughout all of these we were taught to help people.

I wanted to be a soldier initially after two big events during my childhood. The Iranian Embassy siege which i watched at the grand old age of eight whilst off sick from school, and then the Falklands conflict. Both times i saw soldiers doing something above and beyond to help people. So that was a big influence for me joining up, and the path i decided to follow.

As for me going with Royal Military Police, i actually went for the Parachute Regiment at the careers office because i loved my fitness, but i got a really good mark in the entrance test so they suggested i go for something with a trade to fall back on....and the military police had not only a police role, but also a para section and a close protection unit for those who specialised.

So that was the route i went. See i grew up with local village coppers here in the UK that helped you. You could go to them if you needed help. I liked that idea, and if i could help others whilst getting fit and travelling at the same time, that was cool for me.

Never was there a hero or bully complex. Yeah now and again we had to deal with soldiers who were kicking off when drunk and other stuff, but you need the police wherever you go. We helped soldiers who were victims of crime as well as dealing with those who committed it. It wasn't all kicking soldiers into the back of vans either. I used to give pissed up soldiers a lift miles back from town to just short of their camp, it saved them getting into trouble whilst staggering the long way back to camp, it saved us a ton of paperwork because they didn't get into any hassle...and it built a better rapport with them....sometimes

So sorry, the suggestion that all soldiers or police having a hero or bully complex, is quite wrong. Yes there are good and bad out there, but not all. We do it for many reasons, and not all are bad. (opinions vary on that but hey, i have broad shoulders lol)

I served in the USMC from '96 to 2000.

EVERY SINGLE PERSON that I served with were professional and the absolute best that this country has to offer.

Damn fine people!

I can not say the same for a lot of civilians. Especially the ones that ask stupid questions like the one presented in this post.

How cool would it be,

If there is a war between two countries, only the leaders would meet in some ThunderDome,
and see who is made out of what.

That would sure get me in a voting mood!

Ummm...where I lived at the time...Vermont...the construction trade...in the area in which I lived...was typically a three season game...

Nor in my post did I ever claim to speak for anyone other than myself...once again...you are conflating a non issue...as you always seem to do...

Why on earth would you make such an statement...?

Do you have some innate need to diminish or denigrate...?

Dude...I have purposely not commented on any of your posts up to now...simply because you always come off as antagonistic and asinine...

If that's how you wish to be associated on this site...then by all means...soldier on...

Have a nice day...

I think that jobs that require people to intentionally go into combat situations only attract the extremes of the spectrum.. mainly of course.. you will always have X random person ONLY there for the scholarships, or what have you.. but I bet most of them do not go infantry or special forces either...

I think that is very reasonable...

The scary part comes in when you ask yourself what percentage of people are hero’s vs bullies...

And I’m not sure many people assume there are more hero’s than bullies in the world..

It is super easy math and logic.. maybe it is not true..

Maybe there really are no nature/nurture hero’s or bullies at all. And those are concepts we more make up..
