Wind and Solar will cause more acute power shortages.

No. How do you figure that? Wind and Solar plants are both cheaper and quicker to build (per Megawatt) than any other type of power plant right now. That means that it is financially irresponsible to do it any other way. They will actually be supplying power way before the old fashioned alternative.

For Solar you would need a massive of Energy storage.

Yes, of course. Especially if solar was the only source in the 'mix' - but also of course, it isn't. California also has hydro and wind and other sources. Nobody has ever said that solar only was going to be the singular source, the argument is ludicrous. Also large storage capacities are within reach TODAY, almost directly 'off the shelf'.

Wind turbines can cause health effects.

No they don't - and by the way vaccines do not cause autism either.

Oh. Maybe I misread you - is that emoji supposed to denote that you are just kidding?

The idiots in California can do anything they want as far as I'm concerned. With the following exceptions.

1. WHEN you fail, you don't look for bailouts from our taxes.
2. WHEN you fail, you admit your defeat and publish a report "why".
3. WHEN you fail, you are fired.
4. WHEN you fail, your failure can not affect any other American citizen, company or state in any way. You are solely responsible.

After that...GO FOR IT! It will make for great entertainment.

You are correct! Nancy is related to both a Dung Beatle and a Blobfish. She pushes feces around and looks like she's melting.

So...have you converted your home to complete non-fossil-fuel alternatives? Home, car, etc.? If not...why?

Not really.
If you really want to debunk me why don't you try on experimenting with alternative sources of power to your house then and lets see how grant it will be with all those alternative energy sources and the taxes that come with it?

I have solar electricity and solar hot water. I do not have batteries, but will probably get them in the second half of this year, or maybe early next year. I am not disconnected from the grid, and cannot be, we all have to pay to support the infrastructure that everyone uses (ooh! socialism strikes again).

My car is 'normal', and not hybrid. I held onto my previous car for an extra 8 years after I decided it needed to be replaced, because GM promised to build the Volt in Australia (and got a crap load of money from the Government to support it), then killed the Volt, then finally killed all manufacture in Australia altogether. So I got a 'normal', but quite economical car (I get better mileage than most Prius cars in Australia). Otherwise I'd be driving a Volt today - my next car will be electric.

It is economically unfeasible to convert everything all at once. There is a transition period which should have started 30 years ago or more. Jimmy Carter tried. As old dirty plants reach their useful life they need to be replaced, not with 100 year old technology, but new, current, clean, economical technology. Right now that means wind and solar - both are cheaper and quicker to build than gas or coal. It is just straightforward economics.

Gas plants are cleaner than coal, that is for sure, but they are not cleaner than wind or solar and since they are more expensive than wind or solar, why would you bother?

Challenge accepted: though there is no need to experiment; I have already committed.

I have solar electricity and solar hot water. And I am functioning quite well. Yes I buy electricity from the grid when the sun is down - so overnight my refrigerator and my clocks keep running and all my stereo and computers keep running on standby (I could shut them down but they don't eat much). Since I've installed PV I don't worry about the cost of running my air conditioner on really hot days - and there have been more of those than ever this year.

On clear days I sell back to the grid close to twice as much as I use for the 24 hour period. That just about pays for my overnight usage. Even on cloudy days I generally generate more than I use in a 24 hour period.

When I get batteries later in the year, I won't need to ever buy electricity off the grid, except in extreme conditions.

lets see how grant it will be with all those alternative energy sources and the taxes that come with it?

What taxes? I am now paying LESS tax than before! In Australia we pay a 10% "Goods and Services Tax" (GST) on darn near everything - even Government Services! GST is a sales tax on steroids - it is charged on EVERYTHING - every transaction of every kind. So when we buy electricity off the grid, the electricity retailers bill has 10% GST added on. Since I am now buying less from the electricity retailer, I am paying less tax.

So are you debunked yet?

Why do you have to go to the trouble to find a fake photo (as in it isn't a 'real' mass transit attempt) to make your (rather childish) post? The idea is not all that far fetched, you know.

that was explained in AOC's idiotic green deal. they will build train tracks across the oceans for high speed trains. as well as building high speed train lines across the US. you know those high speed trains that have been tried multiple times in North America and failed every time. due to things such as the high cost of the special built, dedicated rail lines that they would need. and the much higher cost of tickets to ride said high speed trains in comparison to aircraft tickets. not to mention the maintenance and weather related problems the high speed rail systems suffered from.

i can't say i'm really surprised at this mayor canceling the power plant refurbishment. after all we call it Kalifornia for a reason. very typical of democrats and liberal thinkers across the world. kill something that works, and is actually a rather clean source of power in favor of wasting billions of dollars on unreliable and unready green energy production. which will cause major problems. one of which is that due to spending all the money needed for this unready green tech, the price of electricity will skyrocket to unaffordable. in the end they won't have a huge issue of brownouts, because too many people won't be able to afford to use electricity. and will turn to cheap things like wood and coal to heat their homes and cook on. using renewable energy sources such as wood and coal is green right?

One more time: this thread is about replacing old worn out gas/coal electricity plants with solar and wind plants.

The topic has nothing what-so-ever to do with eliminating aviation fuel - however desirable that may be.

It is simply stupid to equate gas and/or coal fired plants with eliminating petroleum fuels. They are not the same thing.

Coal is a fuel - but it is NOT used to fuel airplanes.

Natural Gas is a fuel - but it is NOT used to fuel airplanes.

Petroleum is a source of various different fuels - petroleum products (specifically kerosine) ARE used to fuel airplanes.

Reducing dependence on Coal and/or Natural Gas has ZERO IMPACT on airplanes.

Running your propaganda campaign around coal or natural gas fired airplanes is a really quick way to show your readers how truly clueless you are about how the world works.
