President Trump Says He May Declare a National Emergency to Get The US-Mex Border Wall Built.

At the Rose Garden press briefing today, President Trump said the current partial government shut-down could last for months..or up to a year, if Democrats will not agree to fund a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

The President also said that if it looks like no progress is being made, he would initiate "Plan B", which is to declare a National Emergency and have the U.S. Military construct the wall to protect U.S. citizens against crime and drugs from the south.

Legally speaking, what are the requirements for declaring a "National Emergency"? Anyone know?

Considering the precedent this would set, I'd be surprised if even the hard-line Trump supporters on ATS would back this. Even as a leftist, I wouldn't want the next Democrat president doing this to get their way.

As a Democrat you should remember that Obama set the precedent when he used executive orders like royal decrees.

You guys were all about letting a Democrat president have all the power without considering what would happen when someone else took the reigns.

I urge President Trump to share his proposed list with Congress and the American people.

“The President needs to understand that there is bipartisan opposition to misusing defense dollars or treating the Pentagon like a campaign piggy bank.

“Congress must work together to provide our troops with a budget and policies to match their extraordinary courage and sacrifice, and I urge President Trump to do the same.”

Trump can't release that info until Mueller completes his witch-hunt. Unfortunately, that Witch-Hunt was given a 6 month extension today by a Wash D.C. Federal judge.

President Trump said today that terrorists banned on the No-Fly list are exploiting our southern border. It's only a matter of time before they blow up or shoot-up a populated gathering, like we see happen overseas. We've got to stop them from coming in, and hunt down the ones who have come in already.

So the president wants to put the entire nation in a state of emergency or hostage-like negotiation tactics, and he's the sane one?...

Its "fantasy-fridays" in this country, I forgot.

This is funny. There are those who would cheer for this, not realizing that if he does, then it would affect an area within their base, where some rights may be suspended, like due process.

While it is not unlimited, it should be done with caution.

When he does this, he will have to make a written declaration, saying why, what the emergency is, and when it would be over, and thus deliver it to the congress. And once every 6 months reports have to be given, and then once a year he has to renew it.

The area would be under martial law.
