the last Presidential election proves you wrong. the fact is that a few places on their own (mainly big city and more highly populated areas), would have overpowered everyone else's votes. in fact this is the very thing there is an electoral collage in the first place. to prevent a few areas (and even then big cities were a major concern due to the number of voters, so in reality nothing has changed from then). in fact pretty much every democracy has similar things in place. it's not the person or party that gets the most votes in the country that wins. it is the person or party that gets the most votes, in the most areas that wins. just as it works in the US. this is to keep small areas of the country from controlling the country. since different areas have different needs, wishes and concerns. people in big cities have different needs and requirements then people in small farming communities. just as people in the north have different needs and concerns then people in the south. by breaking up votes in those differing areas into smaller blocks and having the wishes of those blocks count equally, everyone is more fairly represented.

If you think we need to do away with the Electoral College then you're obviously in the Democratic camp whether you want to admit it or not. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, right?
