So Ben Shapiro is an aspiring right wing pundit. He has gotten quite a bit of traction on social media and YouTube, but his show online isn't necessarily widely watched. Out of the right wing pundits, he is probably the most palatable for me, he typically talks about substance and doesn't use buzzwords or dog-whistle to get zingers. So he Offers Ocasio-Cortez $10,000 dollars to her campaign to come onto his show and discuss issues surrounding her platform, which I think is a generous offer on his part considering he would help fund the opposition to his ideology. Her response was comparing his request to catcalling. I understand her not wanting to take the offer for a variety of reasons, though I think more exposure would be beneficial in at least helping people understand where she is coming from.

“You’ve noted that you think Republicans are afraid to debate you or talk to you or discuss the issues with you. Not only am I eager to discuss the issues with you, I’m willing to offer $10,000 to your campaign today for you to come on our Sunday special," Shapiro said on his show.

Democratic congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Thursday dismissed an offer from conservative commentator Ben Shapiro challenging her to a debate, saying she doesn’t “owe a response to unsolicited requests from men with bad intentions.”

“Just like catcalling, I don’t owe a response to unsolicited requests from men with bad intentions,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Thursday night. “And also like catcalling, for some reason they feel entitled to one.”

Shapiro's response-

Discussion and debate are not “bad intentions.” Slandering someone as a sexist catcaller without reason or evidence does demonstrate cowardice and bad intent, however.

The Hill
Fox News

I think she could have handled this poorly. First off, she said she doesn't owe him a response, then escalates it to what could be perceived as name calling and insinuations.

I find it sad our state of affairs in this country are people with opposing views can't come together and speak like adults. As I've said before, I like Ben, but don't necessarily see eye to eye with him. I respect his honest and straight foward approach to substance just as I do Noam Chomsky on the far left. I like to listen to good minds on both side, those are just two of the examples I keep in my mix.

Ben would wipe the floor with her and she know it.

She can't go into enemy territory. Like many liberal millennials, shes never had her positions really challenged.

Ben would eat her like Sunday dinner.

She has already proven she is in very high water already with some of her gaffs as is. Her denying his request is definitely one of her smarter moves.

I still would love to watch it over a nice bowl of popcorn.

That's a bit of an oxymoron isn't it?

I wouldn't agree with you if she didn't resort to the wording she did. I think she was rude about a nice offer. A simple, "Thank you for the offer, but I'm going to decline" would fit.

Or sticking to her original statement of not owing a response, she could have just said nothing about his offer at all.

They do better in their own echo chambers where all of the questions are about “free” stuff.

Wow...

Not sure what else to say, throws out an open ended challenge gets called on it refers to it as catcalling.. that actually hurt my brain to read.

As mentioned I agree smart move by someone in her camp, and I imagine the cat calling comment was when she got away form her handlers for a moment and spoke what was really in her mind.

Sooner or later she will get tired of all the attention and really lose it. It shouldn't take long

Ye, just a pitiful excuse to avoid debating anyone.

She better suck it up, she wanted to be in the big leagues, will you better get on stage and get it.

If Maxine had a daughter......

Maybe instead of $10K, he should have offered a participation trophy.

Even in 'Friendly' territory (CNN) (MSNBC)...she comes off as an idiot...

That is similar to my thoughts. If she went on and held her ground, it would be viewed as a win by her supporters. In a political debate, if you do it right, there is no winning or losing, just a difference in opinion.

Yup and those are by in large, softball questions and friendly interviewers.

I'd imagine a debate with her would be worse than when Shapiro obliterated Cenk. Liberals cannot debate when substance is required or without an audience laugh/applaud track a la Bill Maher for one liners.
