NATO is buying tons of energy from that 4th neighbor. Why aren't you making nice if they are?

when it comes to trade, we've been friendly with russia also...
and well, let's consider just how friendly we've been with china...
and to be honest, trump seems to be equally unfriendly when it comes to trade... unless of course, it concerns those imports involved in his family's businesses... then well, it's time to find a way to exclude them from the tarriffs and such.

Howcome when war breaks out we let them ally with us but when it's relatively peaceful they are called monsters basically.

I take it you are referring to WW2?

Well, we had a common enemy in Nazi Germany...but the Russians weren't exactly the white knights themselves. They invaded and occupied several countries...Finland, Poland, Romania, couple others. It's just that Nazi Germany was worse, and when it invaded Russia, the allies had to gallantly come to the rescue.

Except not quite.

Truth is, it put the allies in a bit of a quandary. Nazi Germany, bad guys, no doubt. But wait a minute...Russia, bad guys too, the biggest country on Earth, and a potential threat to us all. Why don't we sit back for a while, let them knock holes out of each other and see what happens? And that's exactly what Stalin accused the allies of doing.

Or Great Britain, to be precise. Russia never forgot that and never forgave Britain for not doing more (not that they gave a rat's arse when Britain was being stuffed by the Luftwaffe. In fact at the time, they had a Non Aggression Treaty with Germany, "don't attack us and we wont attack you" sort of thing).

Remind me again when Russia was allies with the West? Memory's not that great these days.

Brother, I need not refresh your memory.

Wikipedia WW1 and WW2 and see who was allied with who.

Well when Russia invades other countries and actively tries to subvert Western Democracy on a regular basis then they KIND of earn that ire. If we were to just roll over and ignore Russia's transgressions for the sake of normalizing relationships then we'd ultimately be the abused in an abusive relationship.

NATO countries invaded Russia. France invaded Russia in the 1800s. Germany invaded Russia in the 1900s. Russia has never invaded another country. Russia is this bogeyman to divert domestic problems. Nothing more.

Ditto with Iran. Iran has never invaded any country. On the contrary. Iraq invaded Iran in the 1980s.

They were allies enough though the "common enemy" as you say that Putin himself asked to join NATO but the west denied his Country. It is unfortunate that because values aren't shared that people do not get along. I listen to metal and am friends with people who listen to rap as well. Differences are petty as long as you are not hurting anybody.
