It'd only be potentially "humiliated" if a real shooting war developed between the two. There's plenty to be said for real world deployment and experience in development. Hard to replicate that at Komsomolsk. They could even sport Luneburg's like we do so you don't give away too many secrets.

Persnally i think Russia will use the SU57 in a sneek and peak senario With Limited use of sensors but in full stealth mode. Within safe Reach of the S-400 and protected/escorted by SU35s.

The SU 35 have been a test bed for many of the SU57 techology, and these jets have been used in Syria. The result of this can have boosted the Russian confidence in the capabilites of the SU57.

One thing comes to mind. Its not that many weeks ago that Russian SUs chased away the F-22 raptor when the F-22 harassed russian SU25s. And now the Russians send the SU57??

With all the Russian bravado recently and their attempts at "top gun, the movie" tactics whilst trying to intimidate other aircraft, lets hope some comrade idiot doesn't make an error whilst trying to look good for his American counterpart!!

If it was that important the Russians would have shot at the F-22 already. Its not like the russians havent had the chance to do so.

What pisses of the Russians are all the spy Plains the US send towards russia in the black sea. THe Russians dont want US spy Plains that can spy on their Communications habits. THe US have escalated their present in the black sea With a New missile destroyer as well this week.

And that has nothing at all to do with the fact the Russians forcibly moved a border, a border they agreed was guaranteed with the Budapest Memorandum.

Russia sure is taking full advantage of the Civil War in Syria.

What civil war? It's is and always has been a foreign invasion by proxy.

The Russians among other things are using Syria as some sort of genocidal weapons commercial so Its not that far fetched with the IAF balking about the PAK-FA they want to do a dog and pony show to possibly drum up some sales etc.

You have to understand that nothings written is permanent if a change goes against a superpowers national interests.

THe biggest guns can do as they like. If anyone dont agree they can put up or shut up. Its how it Works, just ask the US. They use their military to Project their Power all over the world. If there is a problem anywhere you can be asure that the US are smack in the middle of it all.

Never said that but the Soviets are really going to town on this one and it really is genocide. Well its not genocide if the side committing it has UN veto power.

According to one of the twitter posters I follow it was not only two PAK-FA's but also four Su-35S, one A-50U, and four Su-25s. Which is a noteworthy strike force.

That sounds like a rotation. They might be replacements for damaged aircraft, and the one that was shot down.

Yeah. Its interesting though. WHy deploy your newest when you really don't need to (other than the sales aspect) The US et al are going to get a fair amount of info regarding RCS etc unless they stick lundberg reflectors on it but then why deploy to a combat zone?

Like someone said, you can only go so far in a test environment. This is good publicity, it shows India that they're farther along than reported, and it gives them a baseline for some of their capabilities.

I didn't think about the India aspect. I do think its publicity and we should soon see some footage of the 57 in some sort of combat. It does have an A2G capacity so we shall see

I'd say it's probably 85% publicity. There's evidence the new evince has run into problems. This is a good way too divert attention from that.

I bet its publicity, but I also wonder if they are going to probably try out some different RAM. See how close they can get to an AWACS, etc. I doubt these are even close to the final model, based on how the Russians roll, but it could be an interesting laboratory.

It's really the perfect testing ground to be honest. That's one of the sad things about this mess. It's seen as really little more than a giant testing location.

They've said a couple times the F-35 will make its combat debut this year. VMFA-121 will deploy this summer on Wasp, and there's been talk they'll go to the AOR.
