1 - no it is not - a trimaran is one of the most stable hull forms availiable

2 - a large % of the cost is the underlying tech to run an autonomous naval platform [ which will be " recooped " as the use of them increases

3 - no they wont [ they are outriggers - not sides ] and please cite ANY previous incident of a trimeran loosing an outriger due to seastate

Haha. Hardly. I get a back of the truck sort of education that is fine on the general idea, but scarce on the particulars on most anything uniquely naval. General "you might find this thing we're doing interesting" stories shared on the way here or there. If it floats or sinks, it is not my bag! It's just funny because I was just happened fo be out in that neighborhood a few months ago and saw it tied up and got the short story point of interest "brief".
The FLIP ship is usually tied up across the way there, so that's what I had actually asked about when I got the story about DARPA and ACTUV -- which I had seen over there and was vaguely aware of as a program, but didn't recognize. Just down the way is the Marine Mammal Program which you can frequently see out training and jetting back and forth. Nobody who talks about it "knows" anything, but they all have interesting "rumours" haha

Chinese already tried to steal at least one towed array a few years ago. That's scarier than Somalis!

Yes because boats haven't used outriggers for literally as long as there's been boats or anything...
