Yeah, it is behind a fence, what I meant by out in the open was that it's not inside, or covered. Can't really glean too much from it though, unlike if the actual aircraft was parked outside

Did you see the aircraft painted on the roof of the building farther North? Gotta zoom in pretty good to see it.

Sorry, saving some people some time:

Looks like an older X-plane or a quite boom aircraft. Sort of a F104 with long nose and enlarges tail planes.


I'm guessing an F-35B front section without the gray RAM.

The painted plane on the roof is just the logo for the survivability lab. Hard to tell in the pic, but there are two red "flashes" for lack of a better word on the starboard nose where projectiles are bouncing off.

The mockup isn't as exciting as it seems in the picture either, but it's still cool.

Finally found it on the map.
35°44'46.41"N, 117°34'7.66"W - for a roof paint. Really looks like some kind of Quiet Boom aircraft.

A mock up is about 27 feet length and about 18 feet wide.

A bit to the left of the mock up is graveyard.

A representation of an aircraft, whether on a roof or a unit patch or anything like that, doesn't necessarily mean there's a real aircraft like that. Sometimes those things just get made by someone at the unit level soliciting "anyone who has artistic talent submit drawings for our new [patch, mural, etc]."

Obviously nothing. Was hoping to start some wild conjecture, though. ;-)

It also illustrates the human inclination to see things where there are none. Or do delete that which doesn't meet one's worldview.

Our minds tend to "fill in the blanks" to make an image match our expectations.

For example- there's a picture in the UFO thread...shot in Nort Carolina.

Depending on who looks it is a reflection from a cell phone, a "TR-3" ufo (when will that name go away?), or an unacknowledged USAF special access program aircraft.

There are at least two intact F-14s, and several F-4s out there.

I thought they scrapped all the Tomcats due to than "Iran" nonsense.

They're non-flyable. Aircraft on military bases, or had been stripped for museum entry weren't destroyed. It was the aircraft that had bits and pieces and were in public that got scrapped.

They do not fly but many sit out on ranges for gunnery practice or to use to test/calibrate sensors sensors etc.
