This whole incident was purely routine police work. If the guy had been in a 1 story motel it wouldn't even be in the news. But because he was lodged in an upper floor- all of a sudden he's the next vegas shooter wannabe.

There is nothing unusual about havimg guns in a hotel (i run hotels....i know).

Nothing much to add to the story today other than a little bit of information trickling out from local news sources 2 News (NBC), abc13 News, 11 News Houston (CBS).

The non-news is that Russell Lawrence Ziemba is a disabled Army veteran who according to his wife suffers from PTSD.
From his own admission as well as from a neighbor of his he has been drinking for several days and prior to his stay at the Hyatt Regency had tried to enter the neighbor's house a few times in the middle of the night. The only additional report on his "arsenal" is that of him also having a crossbow in his truck.

Let's see, the guns were apparently not fired at any time while at the hotel. This doesn't mean that there was no plan on using them. The person owning the guns was too drunk to explain to the police why he had the guns in his room other than just for safe keeping.

Yes, none of the above is news but the incident had the potential of becoming a sad story for people celebrating NYE at the Hyatt. Now that would have been news.

sounds to me like he may have been prepared for a tri gun competition. Was there a competition or tournament he was on the way too that he was just too drunk to explain??

Another story from yesterday on a local station. He was arrested just before Christmas at a bar in a small town just out of Houston for unlawfully carrying a weapon - may have had it in the bar.
