There is something about those italics that must bring pause.. a simple reflection akin to:
"Hmmm. What am I missing here that the author meant to convey?"

And now I understand that in your statement you were referring to the power of the pen, (mightier than the sword) rather than the instrument itself.

And thus understanding that by throwing aside the more rudimentary (and less permanent) tool, you were able to increase your potency and make your mark!

Indeed!

But the reality of it it was that I quite simply,

I lost my pencil but found a pen, I was onlly making a quick list so it did not really make a difference.
