Word is that Boeing will launch the 797 at next year's Paris Airshow.

Yes I saw that. A shame really, the Ultra Fan would make a great technology basis for a circa 50,000lb engine for it. Especially since Boeing appears to have pushed the NMA out by a year or so. From talking to a friend who worked for RR as a developmental engineer on the project I was under the impression they were very close.

Despite there being a lot of interest in the aircraft, Boeing postponed the launch decision until 2020. There have been a number of comments that they may develop two aircraft. One would be for range and the other four economics.
