I love how lots of you figure Comey was smart and covered his a$&. Hubris may have gotten to him and he thought he was covered but may have weaved himself too tight. Lets face it if the issue w/ Lynch was brought up during the election we would have had a real mess and it would have boiled down to actual "deep-state" problems. A former prez, meets with the at the time current AG, and said ex-prez's wife is running for his former job.... But the info about his discomfort waits till now to be released??? For all the democrats whining about Comey giving Trump the election seems a tad misplaced. It seems to have been kinder than actually doing his job and reporting that particular conflict that made him so uncomfortable. How many balls has Comey dropped now??? Mayhaps he is not as smart as you and he think he is.

Can you identify the document? Is it official and is it something Comey would have signed.

It is the FBI Employment Contract.... I hope that he signed one. He was an FBI employee.

Thanks.. then they likely have grounds.

You might want to look at the second page that explains things that cannot be shared. Comey's memos dont fall into any of the categories of "PROHIBITED DISCLOSURES".

Dont forget that he shared knowledge of these memos to other high ranking FBI members and the Special Council. So, if they really were privileged information the Acting Director or Special Council would have denied Comey the ability to Testify openly about those files.

I keep reading comments from around the internet, clicked on a Politico link earlier, that Comey did nothing wrong, he's a hero. It was his personal information and he had every right to share it and in no way leaked.

But it boils down to this. Is his employment contract going to be upheld ? Is he above the law ? Can he while still acting FBI director write about a private conversation with the President, on a FBI computer during the course of his work, talking about work related issues then claim that it was "his" "private" information ? Can a government employee who's job demands turning over all records when no longer in that position get to choose what is turned over ..

I mean he's no Hillary Clinton.. What will be the ultimate irony here is if they go after him for one of the things he cleared Hillary of..I mean its clear Comey definitely had "intent". He was going to use that information no matter what.

It's actually quite a bit more complicated then that.

The real sign is that Trump has to use a private attorney to file a complaint with the solicitor general.

If it were a real case the doj would be investigating it without the president needing to file a complaint.

You also have to look at this with the knowledge of trump tweeting information himself and engaging in what comes laid out as a defamation situation where whistle blowers begin to get protection.

By trump defaming coney in tweets and mentioning Russia, comey could use the argument, he was trigging a special prosecutor for the benifit of the American people because of a lack of confidence I. The attorney general, he also laid out his issues with lynch and sessions.

Trumps lawyer most likely will be strongly advised not to file a complaint by Congress. This is why you are not hearing anything from tip GOP lawyers. They know comey's reputation as a prosecutor and understand what he laid out in his testimony.

Trumps lawyer on the other hand is a corporate attorney. He is not versed is criminal, or whistle-blower law.

The employment contract can be trumped by a real threat to democracy (whistle-blower laws) and he has laid out why he believes this is true. No classified info..

If you look at the nsa employee who leaked the air marshals were being taken off planes he was fired for leaking the info, the airlines immediately changed the policy and he was able to sue for being fired for leaking safety info.

It's extremely complicated stuff and most likely all that pushing comey would do is bog down trump even more in personal battles rather than legislating.

Actually by comey saying it was up to Mueller to decide whether Trump committed obstruction. He is saying that Trump is now under investigation for obstruction.

There are no presidential privilege laws. There are barely guidelines. Not to mention the information leaked was not classified.

No more like a former federal prosecutor turned law professor. I would say he is more qualified than trumps corporate lawyer to determine the legality of what he and comey did and would not have done it if he thought they would get in legal trouble . Especially since they did it in order to get a special prosecutor on the case

No he wasn't saying that. As has already been pointed out he had already cleared his testimony with Mueller... there is no prosecutor anywhere that would let their only witness, to a crime they wanted to follow up on, testify in a public hearing before any investigation. There is no investigation. Moreover the current President is not and has never been under investigation.

Just enough time to write it, lol. Why not email it immediately? Why not provide it to the committee beforehand?

If there is a memo,
And the Special Counsel gets it,
How about that chain of custody?

Comey 'wrote' it,
Gave it to his friend,
The friend let another guy read it to a reporter at the Times.
Where else was it?
Is it even the memo that Comey wrote?

The fake memos are being written by corrupt Intel agents.

So what did he mean by saying it was up to Mueller to decide? Mueller would have to open an investigation to make that decision would he not?

Also the house and Senate intelligence committees are requesting the memos and tapes in order to INVESTIGATE possible obstruction charges. Is that not considered an investigation involving rump?

But there is a Contract he signed before taking his job which goes into quite good detail and also federal record keeping laws.
