I was reading an article that was stating relationships are ending and not getting started because the divide is so strong now.
Everybody thought this would calm down like it has after every other major election in the past, it really hasn't.
Had Hillary won everything under the sun would have been tried to impeach her, it is clear there is no healing after federal elections anymore.
The intolerance for opinions on the other side are just out of control, their is no respect for differences of opinion anymore.
Basically it's believe what I believe or you are stupid. From the 2000 election until now I have never seen it this bad, I think the internet added to the problem.

There seems to be no compromise on basic issues like gun control, health care, illegal immigration, there is no middle ground positioning anymore, each side feels it has to go all in, and so Trump voters did, and so did Democrats that really wanted Bernie, but got cheated in the primaries.
It's a horrible situation.

Obama once said something to the effect we are not the blue or red states of America but the Untied states of America, yet it is obvious to all it is very much the blue states verse the red states, and in some cases the red states are only red by a few thousand votes which mean they are really divided.

One thing is for sure less political zealotry from it's citizens would be good for America right now. This applies to both Trump supporters and these liberal demonstrators, take a month off, leave it to the politicians, that's why they get paid.
The MSM is feeding this beast too, CNN is shameful for stirring up the divide even more.

I've been saying this since before the election - America is racing headlong into another civil war. I'm not American, take this as a third-person perspective looking in.

I would just love to come onto ATS without people acting like bickering children from both sides. Shine on you magnificent b*stard!

Its ruined this site, there used to be lots of good stuff and now its buried under mounds of threads of people slagging each other off for their politics.

In many ways this is a failure for American society. Our masters use the theatrical illusion of politics to give us the feeling we have a say in the way things are run. And all the while dividing the population into enemies and allies.

It's not supposed to be Dem vs. Rep, but us vs. the small group that controls everything. And of course, we miss the point.

Once upon a time we had options... also once upon a time people were involved in politics, and if their elected officials lied... they got ousted, also once upon a time we had politicians that believed in serving the will of the people.

then we got fat dumb and happy... and we let them slowly peel away our options, then we let them slowly block the possibility of new options to rise up and they have slowly stopped caring about showing how corrupt they are.

Now the People seem to be aware that something is wrong, but the majority have not shed the my team way of thinking yet, I sure hope they do before a shooting war starts.

there is no quick cure, folks have to realize Democrat, Republican... it does not really matter, both parties are only interested in power and wealth.

No,
I think if Hillary had been elected, the republicans would have made some noise about investigations. But they would have been all on board with her corruption gravy train.

The zealotry theater is just for the masses. Both parties are completely invested in keeping the status quo.

its ll in your head guys. Seriously, think about it. When you go to work or hang out with your friends, is everybody really at each other, or is everyone just going about their day? I bet the majority of humans you see on a daily basis are not only uninterested in what is happening politically, which is typical, but are likely completely ignorant to many of the things the internet is arguing about.

My opinion, this phenomenon is limited to the internet, because IRL, to me everything seems the same as usual.

If Hillary would have been elected it would have all quieted down leaving only the bleating sheep living in their vacuum ranting on sites like ATS. She would not have been impeached since the people that wanted her in control if somebody gets impeached or not.

If somebody did not leak all that crap about Hillary's loose email practices. If somebody didn't show Hillary getting questions prior to a debate. If somebody didn't show the DNC nastiness by shutting down a candidate people wanted more in Bernie.... If if if if........

If all of that crap never happened you'd have your more unified quiet little world. The Internet a problem?? Don't think so in this case. We need people to wtf up. If conflict is what it takes so be it.

True.
Look at the MSM, they are anti Trump.
Look at ATS, I joined almost a decade ago and I have never seen it this bad.
Very sad. And I'm sure I'm not the only one noticing this.

Ever-present media in every facet of our lives and instant access to information from a variety of sources. That's the main difference. You don't need to wait until news has filtered through several journalists and editors to find out what is happening in the next day's newspapers.

There seems to be no compromise on basic issues...

Because compromise is no longer compromise, it's an incremental shift. Time for my... cake analogy!

Imagine you have a cake. Somebody tells you that it's unfair that you have a cake and they have none. Being the nice person that you are, you decide to reach a compromise and give them half the cake.

Just as you are about to start eating, another person comes up and makes the same request. Again, you compromise, and give them half. It's only half, after all, it's not like they're asking for the whole thing. It's a compromise.

Two more people come and go and, suddenly, you're left with 1/16th of your cake. Nobody "took" it from you, you just kept agreeing to a compromise, meeting the people halfway.

Finally someone comes up and tells you "well, 1/16th of a cake is basically no cake at all, why do you even need to have it?" and takes the last of your cake.

Compromise used to be about meeting in the middle. Now it's just a tool to take your cake one slice at a time, while lambasting you for being "unreasonable" if you don't want to share.

But here's the thing: the entire cake was yours to begin with. Who the hell do the other people think they are, to demand that you compromise over something when you are completely in the right?

So, no to compromise. It doesn't work anymore. It's been abused for too long to have any merit left.

Wanna know why Trump (who is a lightning rod for controversy) won? This is why, he gives the masses their dose of reality TV drama that they're craving every day. People are addicted to drama and controversy which has been facilitated by reality TV shows and social media, they got the perfect guy to fill that void for the people, he's a drama king and people are addicted to the controversy surrounding him, as designed.

Do you suspect for one moment that agent provocateurs did not get deployed here? After the fact they realized that controlling major news outlets is not effective anymore. People spend their time in places like this. Pretty sure places like Infowars and forums like this are their new place to wage wars of division.

You nailed it-I first visited this site about 14 years ago and it was all about fringe science, UFO's, paranormal etc, now it looks like it's posing as a right wing front. Nowadays the front page is filled with 'Trump this' or 'Clinton did that' and even if we ever got news of a earth like planet with a hospitable atmosphere the headline would be something like 'BREAKING: TRUMP GETS THE HICCUPS.'

You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

Truth! I remember deciding not to join all those years ago (2008-2009 I started looking) due to the 9/11 board and project Lucifer, then a few years later joining properly to rant and rave. Now its childish bickering.

The thought I take solace in is this:

One day we will all be dead, the world will keep on spinning, mankind no longer plaguing its surface with its petty squabbles. Peace finally falling across the solar system as the radio chatter ceases and an extra terrestrial civilisation picks up our final broadcast before the last bomb hits and they think "wow...what a bunch of idiots"

Take solace in this:

In two million years the Andromeda galaxy will receive a signals from us-a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...and all they will get is reruns of sitcoms and porn.

What a legacy we are weaving. But then again in two million years Aliens may ask 'Does Ross and Rachael finally get together at the end?'

Here at ATS , seems to happen every election . Was lurking around this site since the start . Joined , I think in 2005 , but for personal reasons had to leave ATS behind for a while
Anyone remember the aftermath of the Bush/Gore debacle here at ATS ? The Obama / Clinton debates ? The McCain/Palin vs. Obama fiasco ?

This too shall pass
