number 6 and mental illness

has any one ever heard the connection between the number 6 and mental illness? i read that most people with mental illness particularly schizophrenia dislike or despise the number six. i heard that it is even used sometimes in diagnosis. the doctor ill ask if there is any particular number the patient hates and almost always they say the number six. why would this be? got me very curious. any thoughts?

Maybe "6" is the number of months doctors say remission would occur, causing the other personalities to feel threatened and thus inducing a dread at that particular number?

It is the number of man and the number of the beast; no other motive than that for me. Of itself I don't dislike the number, but there is no getting away from the fact God is using that number for a specific purpose as we know from its use "666" in St John's "Revelation".

Are yo familiar with the British series called "The Prisoner"? The name of the main character is Number 6. It is a well good series and very surreal, linked to the clandestine world of spying and espionage, loaded with paranoia. It is running on British Free TV at the moment and I am loving it. On at 9pm this evening, must remember.

EDIT: My alias here is quite literally revolved 6 to 9 and named after the Beatles' "White Album" track "Revolution Number 9" for this very reason. I turned the 6 upside down with all its connotations.

I think if you dislike or despise any number or letter you've probably got a few issues. I wonder if they go through the numbers one by one or go in with the big 6?

Uh no sorry, disliking a number is not any part of diagnosing schizophrenia. Hating a particular number is more of a obsessive compulsive type thing or even a symptom of paranoid personality disorder (suspicion that an abstract thing is causing harm).

If schizophrenics hate the number 6 it's probably because someone said it repeatedly while trying to exorcise "demons" out of them.

Hmmm. I haven't heard about this theory before. I know in the last few years debates have been ongoing in the mental health field that Schizophrenia and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder often occur together (debate is about what % of which disorder is dominate.)

Some OCD sufferers manifest with number or counting fixations to relieve anxiety - maybe because the number 6 has negative meanings in some religions...just speculation.

Now I am curious!

I actually saw this brought up on an episode of Dr. Phil just the other day. He was interviewing the young man who killed and face chewed the couple in Florida. Obviously, the man had a psychotic break. Dr. Phil asked him which number, from 1-9 bothered him, if any. Dr. Phil wrote down "6" on a piece of paper. The young man said, I don't like 6. Dr. Phil showed him what he had written down before he even said anything.

Dr. Phil explained that people with OCD and other mental illnesses frequently do not like the number 6 for some reason, and it is a way to diagnose. If you believe Dr. Phil. But it was the first time I had ever hear of anything like this.

Might be an idea if we don't get too fixated about judging people on the basis of their number preferences. If it was that easy then we would have no need of Psychiatrists and could rely on Sesame Street's Big Bird to tell us who is mentally ill.

I think also it is not too good an idea as over 1 billion plus people on the planet (and still growing) know that "666" is in the Bible. Perhaps all the people that believe this are mentally ill? When I heard they raised the retirement age to 66, I got pretty upset. Now they raised it to sixty seven, I am even more upset. So toss seven in with the six too.

It doesn't surprise me that some would suggest there may be something to 6 and mental health.

I recall from my interest in Pythagorean numerology the numbers 6/9 carry weight in existential spheres.Esoterically, this idea can appear as reflection of our collective unconscious.Individuals trying to cope better with the challenge of understanding duality when working towards a healthy balance in our inner and outer world.

One can quickly find themselves in over their head exploring magical thinking, losing one's sanity is a very real risk going down that path. Looking back, dealing with not knowing my own condition and subsequent diagnosis, kept me feeling like a chicken running around with its head cut off.No rest for the wicked, lol.

Seriously though, growing up isn't easy.I never looked at 6 being ominous, but this thread brings to mind the 6th day of creation from a biblical perspective.The almighty creating living creatures of all kinds, man, male and female.Seventh day depicting God resting.Well, growing into and maturing as an adult can be hell at times.

I feel that once someone hits a certain point spiritually, they are able to rest or a enjoy peace of mind that comes from being more fully human.(As opposed to living like animals).

This thread makes me wonder if those in other cultures have noticed a similar observation between a number and mental health...

I always thought the number 6 sounded like sicks. Makes me wonder if people with that lifepath # are affected as well.

The number 4 I do know, means death in parts of asia. They tend to stay away from that one.

In all honesty I think an adversity to any number or thinking any number is bad would be a sign of mental illness.

What a silly theory, if you asked anyone brought up around a Christian environment, a very high percentage would say 6 because of the association with evil. Why do you think there is a tv show the 700 club?

Go into any casino and there are slot machines with lucky 7s - not too many would play lucky 6s.

I have schizophrenia never had any delusions revolving around the no. 6 or any number for that fact. I was always more worried about the fillings in my teeth picking up radio waves from the CIA.

Being declared a mind "master" or someone that has one of perfection(don't ask) I have been tasked a few times to fix such individuals in the pay it back system of those people that declared such a thing instead of them doing it themselves but merely to show others that such a person can me set back to recovery where experts etc have placed them on permanence in such an illness,

Here's a quick example how I have fixed the so called schizophrenic... hearing takes place, seeing takes place unless blind or deaf and or both how are people in ones awareness not seeing or hearing "things" it is an abject impossibility that they don't and even if such a condition exists of blind and or deaf such individuals still see and hear things known to them before such a condition... Others wanting to know what those things are is what bothers such individuals or is what becomes effective.

Secondly many times people go to what is called a doctor doctor supposedly has the knowledge of what doctor is speaking of and says you have "this" then out of trust that they know what they are talking about but ignorance or little knowledge of what doctor said you have then the person starts filling that role to be accepted all those other actors doing the same... including myself in being a mental "master".
