That's an easy Meme to throw out there but they have just made an exciting revaluation , three Earth sized planets within their habitable zone so likely have liquid water ... and they're just up the road so when JWST comes online we may get to image them.

There is supposed to be an "AMA (Ask me anything) Q&A session on reddit after the conference, anyone know the URL for it? I cannot find it?

NASA, again super excited to tell the world what they've already known for years. They found a planet? Shocking. Wake me up when they have contact with one. Until then, who cares? Maybe they found more proof that water once existed on Mars? Maybe some pics of Saturn? Yawn.

Well, no. NASA has speculated that several Earth-like exoplanets could exist in one system, but they never really found such a system with 7 Earth-sized planets around one star, and THREE that may be earth-like (TRAPPIST 1E, 1F, and 1G).

Plus, it's exciting to find out that these types of stars (ultra-cool dwarf stars) can have so many Earth-like planets.

These are potential targets for the upcoming James Webb Space Telescope, which will be able to search the atmospheric gasses of these planets for signs of life processes.

The people of this planet aren't really concerned about whether a certain planet has liquid water on it, nor would they care if the planet were Earth-sized.

The people on this planet want to know: Is there actual alien/ET being (not microbial) out there with proof, and what about UFO's. Are there pictures that NASA took of alien technology flying to and from a planet. That is what really needs to be known. Not the could's, maybe's and possibly's.

Interesting announcement for the general public to back up the theories and data already obtained up to this point in regards to the existence of exo-planets. How does this fit in with the secret space program activities? Been there - saw that?

Heck, yeah...that would make for a great press conference. However, are you saying that if they DON'T have pictures of alien technology, then they should not bother having these press conferences at all?

Personally, I like it that the stuff NASA does and the results of their work are shared in press conferences such as these -- even IF they don't yet have proof of pictures of aliens technology.

Would you rather this information about TRAPPIST 1 and its potentially Earth-like planets simply be put out in some anonymous science journal that the public probably would not read?

When James Web launches next year we may have the answer to if they are inhabited by ET within a year or so , JWST can sample their atmospheres for traces of gasses associated with life . if life does exist there they are close enough that should they have the technology they could have paid us a visit.

I bet they'd be less happy with this announcement than we are , although we are still just learning to walk.

Maybe they should be having press conferences why they cut live ISS feeds when a UFO crosses the frame.

Seven Earth sized planets around the same Star , TRAPPIST-1 , with three in the habitable zone just 43 light years away !

As far away as that is, it seems relatively close.

Well I would say that was pretty exciting... 7 Earth sized exoplanets all possiblyour inhabitable and relatively near by.

Now where did I put those dylithium crystals?

Exoplanets: planets that exist orbiting stars other than our own sun or extrasolar planets are the planets that orbit stars other than our own sun or that wander without the benefit of a star to shine on them

Feb 23 2017 Google celebrate exoplanet discovery with doodle

Astronomers estimate that there could be trillions of planets around other stars.

The densest exoplanet discovered to date is the planet Janssen (55 Cancri e). This planet also has a year of just less than 18 hours.

The known exoplanets fall along a range of sizes, masses, and orbital positions.

Exoplanets are so much further away than Pluto, that astronomers really need additional help to see them.

The United States is just one of many countries working to locate exoplanets.

The TV feed cuts out due to positioning with ground antennae at least once or more per 90-minute orbit; so it cuts many times per day. Along with that, ice, lens flare, and other things (such as lights back on Earth) can be seen in the video feeds several times per day...

...take those two factors that separately happen several times per day and put them together, and on some occasions when objects can be seen in the video, the feed might cut due to the ground antennae positioning.

There are also times that objects can be seen but the feed does NOT cut. Other times, the feed cuts because of the position of the ground antennae, but there were no objects seen in the feed.
