I haven't read the thread yet, but if you're really serious about learning about the history of that kind of magic, and purchase books on the occult, here's a book store you should check out:

You know you could learn a lot about magic, spells, chanting, divination and the occult just by googling it. For someone that has no idea about it id suggest googling and reading about what i mentioned above to build a greater knowledge and understanding about it before delving into it.

I know you say you just want to start doing it straight away but you need to learn about it before doing it. You have to walk before you run so to speak, just doing it without any knowledge in what your doing is like talking to a brick wall and hoping it talks back, lol

First, are you sure you want to learn magick (i.e spells and the like)? With power comes responsibility. And once you know something you cannot unknow it. You are stuck with the magickal knowledge.

Search your heart if you are ready for these things. Because it is NOT sunshine and rainbows and you will lose part of yourself in exchange for the knowledge.

Then get yourself a "Llewellyn's 2017 Magical Almanac" and read read read.

Can anyone recommend some good books?

I get the feeling that the op is super green when it comes to the esoteric due to the fact that they post multiple threads asking for advice on any number of topics from hypnosis too hexing.

I guess they have free will so if they want to try to swim in the deep end before they learn to crawl it's up to them.
Literally a ocean of esoteric information is one google search away.
I use to have to go to the library hoping to find that one weird book but we are now in an age where the op could find any number of grimoires online to tickle their fancy.

If they start with the Goetia ...well I don't see their exploration lasting too long since it like swimming with the sharks as opposed to wading with the guppies.
But I guess the Op is gonna do what they are going to do.
