This story is downright bizarre. Guy with fake name gets coveted White House Press pass. Guy with fake name works for, basically, a fake pro Bush news organization (Talon News) with GOPusa funding. Guy couldn't get a congressional press pass cuz he couldn't pass the FBI background check. Someone at the big house likes guy with fake name and gets him a day pass he uses for 2 years. Guy with fake name strokes Dubya with softball questions. (I wonder if he's Dubya's boy?) I have heard rumours that G.W. is bisexual, tho I've never given them much credence. He looks pretty straight to me; but, who really knows? A lot of his GOP bretheren seem to be falling out of the closet lately. (I'm having flashbacks of J.Edgar Hoover humping David Ferrie - in "JFK".
) Why do fascists seem to always turn out to be flamers, anyway? So anyway.. The burning question is WHO GAVE HIM THE PASS? One of his boyfriends? And how did guy with fake name get involved in the Valerie Plame (Joe Wilson's wife and CIA NOC who was outted) case? This is all so convoluted.

Editor's note: For continuing coverage of the Jeff Gannon story, see Will Pitt's FYI. Will focuses on Gannon's possible involvement with the White House's naming of Victoria Plame as a C.I.A. officer, an "outing" that invites criminal indictment. The first story below deals with Gannon's life as a gay escort. We would not likely have run the article except that President Bush presents himself politically as the defender of anti-Gay "moral values." To quote a new take on some old advice, "Those who live in glass houses, should not."

The second story, brought to our attention by Buzzflash.com, suggests that Gannon's employer - conservative publicist Bobby Eberle and his GOPUSA website - also dabbled in old-fashioned anti-Semitism. - sw

"Jeff Gannon's" Secret Life
By Eric Boehlert
Salon.com

Tuesday 15 February 2005

Revelations that the bogus reporter worked as a gay escort are the latest twist in the affair that has the White House squirming -- and Democrats demanding explanations.

Last week, Republican activist Bobby Eberle, the man behind the now infamous conservative Web site Talon News, insisted that before hiring "Jeff Gannon" as his White House correspondent, he never looked into Gannon's background. If true, Eberle probably wishes he had. And the same could be said for the White House officials who bent the rules to make way for Gannon in the press briefing room. There's new evidence that the Talon reporter, who lobbed softball questions at Bush during press conferences on behalf of a dubious news operation, recently worked as a male escort.

Gannon, whose real name is James Guckert, made headlines last week when he resigned from Talon after days of intensive scrutiny from bloggers. Online critics first raised questions about Guckert's questionable journalistic methods and his lack of experience (he often cut and pasted White House press releases into his "news" stories), as well as Talon's lack of independence from Eberle's purely partisan GOPUSA Web site. Then questions arose about why the Talon reporter was given access to the White House press room after being turned down for Capitol Hill press credentials. The final straw for Guckert came when bloggers revealed associations that Guckert and his Delaware-based company had with a handful of gay-themed male escort services.

Here's an excellent (short) critique of today's media.

Conservative Sycophants Lose Credibility

by Paul Craig Roberts
The conservative media will never recover from its role as Chief Sycophant for the Bush administration. Journalists who demanded that Clinton be held accountable for a minor sex scandal (Monica Lewinsky) and a minor financial scandal (Whitewater) now serve as apologists and propagandists for the Bush administration's major war scandals.

The Republican House of Representatives saw fit to impeach President Clinton for lying about sex. The same Republicans defend to the hilt Bush's lies that launched America into an unjustified war that has killed and maimed tens of thousands of Iraqis and Americans, cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars, ruined America's reputation, and lost forever the hearts and minds of Muslims.

No decent or sensible person can have confidence in journalists and politicians who take partisanship to such extreme lengths.
www.antiwar.com...

One thing that makes me crazy is that today's GOP has gone completely off the deep end. The standard they hold individuals and nations to does not apply to them. They are now untouchable. It's not right.

I enthusiastically supported Clinton's impeachment. He lied under oath, plain and simple. That is an impeachable offense. I thought it was sad, though, that they had to go after him over something so assinine and sleazy.
They couldn't get him on heavier stuff b/c of the implication of certain others. (Cough.. George H. W. Bush..) The way I see it (as a Republican), we should go after wrongdoing WHEREVER it is, regardless of party affiliation. Those who only go after their opposition have ZERO credibility.

The article also talks about how certain conservatives believe that those who do not support the war and say so should be shot for treason. Anyone who suggests such a thing does not belong here in the USA. They should do us a favor and relocate to the Soviet Union, North Korea or Saudi Arabia. They'd be much happier there with the rest of those knobs that cannot handle views that differ from their own. Busheviks suffer from extreme intellectual weakness and fear. Its pathetic.

One very important question needs to be answered, for the sake of National Security: WHO GAVE GANNON ACCESS?

A hireling, a fraud and a prostitute

Bush's agent in the press corps has given spin a new level of meaning

Sidney Blumenthal
Thursday February 17, 2005
The Guardian

The White House press room has often been a cockpit of intrigue, duplicity and truckling. But nothing challenges the most recent scandal there.
The latest incident began with a sequence of questions for President Bush at his January 26 press conference. First, he was asked whether he approved of his administration's payments to conservative commentators. Government contracts had been granted to three pundits, who had tried to keep the funding secret. "There needs to be a nice, independent relationship between the White House and the press," said the president as he called swiftly on his next questioner.

Jeff Gannon, Washington bureau chief of Talon News, rose from his chair to attack Democrats in the Congress. "How are you going to work - you said you're going to reach out to these people - how are you going to work with people who seem to have divorced themselves from reality?"

For almost two years, in the daily White House press briefings Gannon had been called upon by press secretary Scott McClellan to break up difficult questioning from the rest of the press. On Fox News, one host hailed him as "a terrific Washington bureau chief and White House correspondent". Gannon was frequently quoted and highlighted as an expert guest on rightwing radio shows. But who was Gannon? His strange non-question to the president inspired inquiry. Talon News is a wholly-owned subsidiary of a group of Texas Republicans. Gannon's most notable article had asserted that John Kerry "might some day be known as 'the first gay President'".

Welcome aboard EastCoastKid. I feel your frustration as do many . I won't call you a Democrat because I respect your need to continue seeking the truth, and I sure as hell wouldn't want to have to defend the truthfullness of the Democratic party, but it is the lesser of two evils. I used to be such a right-wing partisan,
y'all wouldn't believe it. It's funny, though; the more knowledge I've gained, the less partisan and judgemental I've become. I can no longer stand the rigidity and intolerance of the right. Especially considering the sheer hypocrisy coming out of the GOP. (Druggie Limbaugh, gay porn star white house correspondent GUCKERT, gambler Bennett, etc. etc.) It's nauseating.

We still stand for peace, love and hope even while the Christian fundamentalist overpower us with their hatred. Well take you in, proudly.

As a Christian, I am blown away by the level of (scriptural) ignorance in today's church. If they spent more time reading what the bible actually sez and listening less to what scheister Pat Robertson, et al. sez, they'd understand how utterly immoral this administration is. It's FASCIST. I'm also blown away by the sheer hatred eminating from so-called Christians. I've never seen anything like it. All I can think is, they think they are Christians. Jesus himself said that one day he will claim to never have known those people. Sad, scary day for them.

From the Sermon on the Mount:
Mat 8: 15-29

Jesus had already warned his disciples that such things would happen. ‘Many will say to me on that day "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and drive out demons and perform many miracles?" Then I will tell them plainly "I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!"

By the way, I read a thread yesterday about Scott McCllen frequenting Texas Gay Bars. Anyone have anything to add about that. I love to uncover hypocracy whereever it's found.

I've heard that, too. I wonder if presstitute Jeff "Gannon" is Scott's loverboy?
How else would he have gained access to the White House Press pool?

The reporter who wasn't is part of a wider press scandal, writes Paul Harris in New York

If, during the Clinton administration, a fake reporter from a Democrat front organisation, using a false name, had been exposed as attending White House press conferences it would have been a national scandal. If he had then been shown to be a gay prostitute, the scandal could have threatened a Democrat presidency. With 'Gannon' and Bush there has been no such outcry.

Post-Election, Daschle Campaign Aide Says Thune and Gannon "Worked Hand in Hand"; Gannon's Work in South Dakota Shows Substantial Ties to Current Thune Campaign Staffer Jason Van Beek

The National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman singled out South Dakota Senator-elect John Thune (R) for special praise, noting that he ousted the first leader of either party running for reelection in over 50 years. He had previously said that beating Daschle would be like picking up three seats.

South Dakota is a long way from Washington, D.C.--which makes it, perhaps, no surprise that this story has taken so much longer to hit the mainstream media in significant fashion than the more spectacular fact that the man at the center of said story is a gay prostitute/anti-gay Republican activist and worked, until recently, as a "reporter" at the White House.

Here are a couple more items. One is from MSNBC and the other is written by pitbull Justin Raimondo. He really tears into it.

Politics: Gannon's Enemies ListNewsweekFeb. 28 issue - Jeff Gannon is considering suing liberal interest groups, bloggers and others for a "political assassination" that drove him from his job as a reporter for a conservative news outfit called Talon News, he told NEWSWEEK. Gannon, whose real name is James Guckert, singled out Media Matters—a "well-funded" liberal group headed by longtime "attack dog" David Brock. ("Everything we wrote about him came from the public record," Brock replied.)

It remains unclear how Gannon got routine White House press access for nearly two years; he acknowledged he first began getting clearance to White House press briefings in early 2003 as a representative of GOPUSA, a group headed by Texas GOP activist Bobby Eberle—months before Eberle even created Talon News. Gannon said he had no access to White House aides outside the press room, nor did he try to interview any. When President Bush called on him at a press conference last month—during which he asked a question with false info about Sen. Harry Reid—"nobody was more surprised than myself," said Gannon.

Sex, Lies, and Jeff Gannon
The unmaking of a media whore
by Justin Raimondo
A gay prostitute, a phony media organization that managed to sneak its "reporter" into White House press briefings, and the lies that were fed to the media and the American people in the run-up to war with Iraq – what possible connection could these items have to one another?

The answer: a man called "Jeff Gannon."

Amid the media frenzy over Gannon's journalistic bona fides, or lack of them – and the lurid speculation going on in the left lane of the blogosphere about how a purported male hooker got admitted to White House press briefings before his "Talon News Agency" (a front group created by "GOPUSA") was even created – one has to ask: who cares?

Answer: Patrick J. Fitzgerald, for one, the chief prosecutor in an investigation that could rope in several high-ranking administration officials and even lead to the White House itself. And those of us who have been awaiting the come-uppance of this White House, for two, and are ready to get out the popcorn and the chips-and-dip and settle down for a nice long juicy scandal.

There are a lot of folks out there like us. Voted for Bush in 2000, then saw the writing on the wall. People think it's all about hating Bush. It's not. It's about policies coming into play that are horrendously bad for this nation. Glad to hear from you, Firestarter.

On the passing of Doctor Hunter S. Thompson, Dean, Gonzo Journalism..

It was a sad day to learn that ol' Rauol had pulled the plug. I can't say he was a great man; but he definitely was a most freethinking, freewheeling and unique man I've just about ever come across. He said what he meant and he meant what he said. Rare, indeed.

It was Thompson who first inspired me toward journalism and to write on politics. His honest, free-flow style and damn the torpedoes approach was the most intoxicating writing I had ever read. I didn't know you could do it your own way, honestly and still be in the business. And by God, Thompson did it HIS OWN way, no two ways about it. Damn the rules of Journalism. It could not contain him. His personality was too great a force.

He gave me a courage in writing no one else ever has. Not to mention love for it. Move to your own rythym, listen to the drumbeat in your own head, to hell with conformity. To hell with candy-a$$ rules of writing. This world doesn't need another ant marching; it needs truthseekers and risk-takers. Someone who's not afraid to tell it like it is. There isn't another writer out there, that I know of, who can come close to the Doc on that count.

I will go back now and finish reading "The Great Shark Hunt," that I had put down half-way through. I'll drink in his ascerbic wit and ungodly humour and hope to somehow become better myself. He will motivate me to go farther and to work harder, and crazier
. And I will miss his wisdom dearly. In the words of William Rivers Pitt, another excellent writer:

In the same month the planet gets to know the 'journalist' James/Jeff Guckert/Gannon, Hunter S. Thompson decides to make The Big Bit-Spit and eject from the planet. This could be sacrilege, and I hope his family will forgive me, but there is something wretchedly fitting in the confluence.

Hunter was a drunk and a drug-sucker. He would go to cover an event and slather himself with '___'. He went to the '72 GOP convention as a wild-eyed liberal and elbowed his way into the activist bullpen, grabbing a sign reading 'Garbage Men Demand Equal Pay' before charging the floor with the Nixon-shouters to howl “Four More Years!” at John Chancellor. He wanted to write about motorcycle gangs, so he went out and joined the worst of them, and got his ass stomped in. And wrote about it.

There's a certain amount of danger when writing about a man like Hunter S. Thompson. Figuratively and literally. Figuratively, in that Thompson is still vital and practicing his art. Any biography, therefore, will be incomplete. Literally, in that Thompson is a violent and unstable man with a fondness of firearms and extreme action. He's the type to come looking for you.

Thompson has been many things to many people, which is a testament to his talent. His books have transcended social barriers and have become almost required reading for many diverse, almost diametrically opposed audiences -- law enforcement officials and restless youth, politicians and journalism students, to name a few. Here's an article I found regarding the case of who outted CIA NOC Valerie Plame (wife of former ambassador Joseph Wilson of Niger forgery scandal). Strangely it ties into the Gannon/Guckert gay escort White House scandal. I'm hoping against hope the Gannon issue will be the string that loosens the whole BushCo. fabric into collapse.

We still havn't found out WHO gave Gannon access to the White House Press Pool. That is what we need to find out above all else.

One more thing.. on those Bush recordings that were just released.. I think its all smoke and mirrors. Does anyone actually believe those tapes were released without the Rovian blessing? (Especially considering the heat now growing over the Gannon case.) Bush didn't say anything of any consequence! Get real! Oooh.. he didn't say anything about his attempted pot smoking cuz he dint want the little kiddees trying the same thing. Earthshattering!
It's a diversion!

Think about it.. think about how this administration will not abide by disloyalty. They would've smeared that guy (who released the tapes) into oblivion if their was not some purpose to this. I listened to many portions, and I have to say, some of the recordings sounded exactly like Bush was reading cue cards. Anyone else notice that?

So now it appears JD Gannon, newsfaker extraordinaire, may be moving to sue those eeeevil left-wing blogs that outted him. For destroying his career after revealing his fake name, gay porn escort service and journalism background ($50, two-day Journalism SEMINAR). Good luck.

So far, the mainstream media has largely diminished and ignored this story. If he does sue, it will only bring attention to it. I can't imagine Gannon's boyfriend in the White House (whoever that is) and his cronies would ever allow that to happen.

Gannon considering suing left wing bloggers
Jeff Gannon, the White House correspondent forced from his job by left wing blogs is considering suing left wing bloggers for a “political assassination” that drove him from his job, according to a Newsweek Article to go to print on Feb 28.

Gannon, whose real name is James Guckert, singled out Media Matters, a quasi blog that focuses on the political affiliations of the US media.

The report states that it remains unclear how Gannon got routine White House press access for nearly two years; he acknowledged he first began getting clearance to White House press briefings in early 2003 as a representative of GOPUSA, a group headed by Texas GOP activist Bobby Eberle, months before Eberle even created Talon News. We would also expect that if he was to sue bloggers that John Aravosis of AmericaBlog would also be high up the list, having broken the story of Gannon’s alleged links to gay military porn.

"Shallow Throat" had not contacted me since months before the November 2004 election. I figured that the high-level GOP mole, who formerly had worked at the White House before moving to another agency, was bummed out and needed time to reflect.

So receiving ST's coded calls was a good sign. We met in an obscure diner in Rockville, Md. I could tell Shallow Throat was in bad shape, since my conservative informant looked pale and depressed and was back to wearing a wig and wraparound shades.

"I can't describe to you, Bernie, what the atmosphere is like inside the Administration," said a nervous-sounding ST. "Publicly, they are taking their electoral 'victory' as confirmation that they don't have to give an inch, to anyone. It's full speed ahead domestically and abroad. But privately, they are well aware of how tenuous the situation could become for them in some areas, which is why they are coming out of the chute with such full-bore speed and determination. Jeff Gannon and Talon News: A Disgrace to Internet Publications
February 14, 2005 12:08 PM

Jeff Gannon (really JD Guckert) had been a regular at White House press briefings for nearly two years. After asking an extremely biased question favoring and directly to George W. Bush at the last presidential press conference, Gannon caught the ire of bloggers around the nation. Just as they did with the Tom Brokaw, the Swift Boat Veterans and an array of other issues, bloggers investigated the issues and exposed the scandal in record time.

As it turns out, Jeff Gannon really wasn't Jeff Gannon. His real name has been revealed as JD Guckert (if even that is correct). In addition to an interest in politics and defending the current Bush administration regardless of the truth, Gannon reportedly had an interest in gay/escort websites such hotmilitarystud.com and militaryescorts.com as revealed by liberal bloggers.

Gannon's supposed news organization, Talon News, was simply a side company for the news and commentary site GOPUSA.com, run by Texas republican Bobby Eberle. Assumably, GOPUSA.com would have had a hard time establishing credibility as a news organization given its name. Mr. Eberle used the swift power of the Internet to establish a side site, TalonNews.com, that would have less of a problem in getting press credentials.

A few more stories about the JD Guckert/Gannon affair have made it into the mainstream press. Not many, though. Who remembers the outrage over Clinton and his Oval Office dalliances with Monica? I do. I was one of those Republicans who thought he completely debased the office and should be punished for it.

Now we have a male prostitute posing as a journalist within spitting distance of the president - using a fake name on top of it. Someone in the White House gave the guy a two-year DAY PASS. And allowed him access w/out being vetted by the Secret Service & FBI. If Clinton had been involved in this kind of shady business, the outcry for his ouster would have been deafening.

Fellow Republicans, why the extreme hypocrisy? Explain to me, if you will, how you can justify the obscene double standards? Today's GOP is morally bankrupt. It reminds me of the Democratic party through the '80's and '90's.

EastCoastKid foams at the mouth over gannon,

So far, the mainstream media has largely diminished and ignored this story.
Thats because this is hardly newsworthy, by far its more sensational as well as being partially considered "poor taste" to imply that being a homosexual somehow invalidates you from being a reporter.

Lets look deeper at the gannon smear and allegations,justoneminute.typepad.com...

So, lots of questions - did Gannon have a patron in the White House, enabling him to slide past security? Did he receive a leak of classified documents? Is Special Counsel Fitzgerald ignoring him now as a favor to the White House? Did the White House set up a fake news service so that they had a friendly outlet with which they could plant stories, and so that White House Press Secretary could spot a friendly face in the room if a press briefing turned hostile?
YET,

The conspiracy-minded on the left are hoping that questions will suffice, and that the burden of proof will somehow shift over to the White House apologists (OK, that includes me). This will, the critics hope, present the apologists with the nearly impossible task of proving a negative - no one has found a smoking gun memo linking Karl Rove to Bobby Eberle, but that does not mean it does not exist, now does it?
So where does this leave us?

With thin questions and answers that dont support the liberal rape of this person thru questioning his sexuality openly in the media...something the left usually upholds has become a noose around this guys neck.

So now, the latest in the Gannon Cannon is that he could be Johnny Gosch, kidnapped long ago while delivering newspapers. His mother can't substantiate right now whether it's him or not. In 1989 The Washington Times broke the story about a homosexual prostitution ring involving members of the Reagan Bush administration. It was archived at www.whatreallyhappened.com Here are some comments from WRH's Mike Rivero and a link:

FLASHBACK: Homosexual Prostitution Inquiry...
Posted Mar 17, 2005 05:23 PM PST
Category: HIDDEN HISTORY

Let's take a look at t recent sequence of events here.
1. Jeff Gannon is outed as a gay prostitute while posing as a member of the White House Press Corps.
2. Congress demands an investigation.
3. Reports surface linking Gannon with the Franklin scandal.
4. Gannon announces via a Moscow newspaper that he has tapes of top US leaders involved in homosexual and possibly pedophilia activity.
5. The Congressional bill to investigate "Gannon-gate" suddenly dies in the Judicial Committee AND the White House press corps declares the issue dead and buried.

Methinks official Washington doth protest too much. From the obvious panic triggered by Gannon's claimed tapes, the story of the Franklin Scandal gains credibility.

And if it is true, then anyone who has tapes or photos of US leaders cavorting with minors is in a position to control the government.

... which means US leaders may be sending off your children to die in wars simply to protect their own asses.

See it for yourself. So the same creeps from back then are running the show today. And you wonder why the government doesn't respond to the people?

Well there you go, they voted down an inquiry into who authorized Gannon access.
Go figure. I guess there are a lot of folks who are being blackmailed.

VIDEO: House Judiciary Committee quashes Gannon inquiry
CLICK HERE and forward to the 7:22:48 mark to watch the House Judiciary committee vote down a resolution demanding the Bush Administration turn over documentation concerning how a male prostitute using a fake name was able to bypass normal security procedures to gain regular access to the White House.

Republicans voted down Democrats in the 21-10 party-line vote to ignore their constitutional responsibility in performing oversight of the Executive branch.

Wednesday -- Non-Partisan
USA Today is running a poll that says about 62-percent of Iraqis believe their country is headed in the right direction. Normally we would be happy to receive the news that Iraqis prefer the idea of burgeoning democracy to that of a dictatorship, but then we saw how the poll was presented:

"The poll, by the International Republican Institute (IRI), [is] due to be made public Wednesday... The IRI is a non-partisan, U.S. taxpayer-funded group that promotes democracy abroad."

A little research on the IRI turned up this information:

- All 24 of the organization’s board members, including its president, are Republicans.

- The IRI is the indirect product of a new agenda of democratic globalism spearheaded in the late 1970s by neoconservatives.

- The IRI came to fruition in 1982 when President Ronald Reagan proposed a new U.S.-led effort to promote free-market democracies around the world.

- George A. Folsom, IRI's president and CEO, was a member of the Bush-Cheney Transition Team.

- Millions of dollars in U.S. taxpayer money channeled through the IRI funded groups opposed to Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez during the years preceding a failed April 2002 coup against the Venezuelan President.

- When it was falsely believed that the coup was successful, Folsom rejoiced over Chávez' removal from power. "The Venezuelan people rose up to defend democracy in their country."

- The IRI supplied aid to opposition groups in Haiti.

Sex, Lies and Call Girls: Why the U.S. Media Is a Whore

Douglas Herman | March 17 2005

"The Central Intelligence Agency owns everyone of any significance in the major media." ~ William Colby, Former Director, CIA
Most of them have been given Pulitzer Prizes for “distinguished commentary.” Their work appears in hundreds of American publications. They command huge salaries and they appear on most of the television news programs. Their books invariably enjoy instant access to publicity and become bestsellers. They are the made men of the media mafia. And they are all “owned,” as the late William Colby once admitted.

Not unlike a "flash / bang" lobbed in order to obtain or re-obtain the initiative, the right-wing has learned that if, on occasion, they shout, "Gay Republican! Look out!" the Left will be momentarily off-guard, as they are required to consult their Inner Political Correctness gauge, and this sends them into a brief recursive loop, based on Cognitive Dissonance, because of trying to hold in their minds both the mercy towards gays and the frustration with Republicans.
