That is related to the same thing that makes it impossible for Sirius to be orbiting Alcyone or Earth to be orbiting Sirius. Sirius has a proper
motion about the same rate, and opposite to the apparent motion provided by precession. It's moving through space quite rapidly, from our point of
view.
There are other stars which are moving through space even more rapidly. Stars which also do not follow precession.
