Thank you foryour very important warning. That's something that don't want to deal with. I'll let braver souls than I review the information.

Really appreciate the heads up.

The warning is a hoax.

*sigh* If it was a hoax meant to deter people from looking at wikileaks, it seems to be working.

Yes, I see that now.

It's still a good reminder for everyone to be extremely careful where they tread though.

Looks like Anon is the drop that could possibly have that material; if it even comes to fruition. It makes sense that wikileaks wouldn't drop it, that would not prove a smart decision for them, if they would.

Let's examine the thinking behind using this idea (that there may be kiddie porn images in the release) as a deterrent to keep people from looking at Wikleaks.

First off it presumes that a large number of people believe that there is a high likelihood of there actually being something to the story (of child sex trafficking) and as a result the forthcoming release would include such proof.

Next, is the fact that this is a tacit acknowledgement by those who perpetrated the hoax warning that there very well could be something to the rumors, otherwise they would not be able to use the idea as a deterrent.

It's like they're saying that Hillary and co. are SO evil that just by looking at the information being released about them, you might inadvertently view something so horrendous the viewer would go to jail merely due to the nature of the evidence.

Just let that marinade for a bit, will ya?

I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to play devils advocate on this for the sake of entertainment and completion:

Or, they're trying to create the illusion that there are in fact a large number of people who believe the content is damning.

Next, is the fact that this is a tacit acknowledgement by those who perpetrated the hoax warning that there very well could be something to the rumors, otherwise they would not be able to use the idea as a deterrent.

Unless the warning is valid.

Well, to some people (especially those that feel they have the most to lose by bucking the status quo) perception becomes reality and anyone can cause this effect in a group of people. Generally speaking, there is not a whole lot that can be viewed with the threat of going to jail. Even child pornography can be viewed to determine criminal liability (otherwise cops everywhere would be going to jail themselves) and not many courts of law would send someone to jail under the auspice of deviance if information was the intended outcome.

Please do NOT take this as law, but a guideline as to some concerns:

Exceptions
There is an exception to typical definitions of child pornography. If it can be proven that the depiction has serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value, it may be exempted from child pornography laws. The definition of a pornographic image can be subjective and many courts refer to the case of U.S. v. Dost to determine whether an image meets the criteria for pornography. That case created the "Dost Test" in order to better determine whether a visual depiction of a minor constitutes a "lascivious exhibition of the genitals or pubic area." The Dost Test has six criteria, not all of which must be present, nor are other criteria necessarily excluded from the test. Those criteria are:
1. Whether the focal point of the visual depiction is on the child's genitalia or pubic area.
2. Whether the setting of the visual depiction is sexually suggestive, (i.e., in a place or pose generally associated with sexual activity).
3. Whether the child is depicted in an unnatural pose or inappropriate attire given the age of the child.
4. Whether the child is fully or partially clothed/nude.
5. Whether the visual depiction suggests sexual coyness or a willingness to engage in sexual activity.
6. Whether the visual depiction is intended or designed to elicit a sexual response in the viewer.

Source

Again, I'm simply trying to level the playing field by playing devil's advocate, not that I necessarily disagree with any of the conclusions arrived at here.

I appreciate your contribution and what you point out could certainly be the case.

It's good to engage with someone who has a different point of view but does not come across as belligerent in espousing a different idea from what their own.

I have no problem running thought experiments in many different directions, I mean after all, that's how we get closer to the truth.

I fervently believe all of this, what we're seeing in the media, WikiLeaks, Assange hiding from the public eye, is all just filler. It's filler to something a bit more nefarious, though I can't quite wrap my arms around what that would be.

One can say follow the money, but that tired cliché can only go so far...as we have found out, the money trail is too complex to actually follow and often hits a brick wall.

I'm curious (random question here) but, what do you personally think it would take to affect a Government with some semblance of how it was originally intended?

(Also, I don't have blinders on in that, I'm aware of the irony of our forefathers who were slave owners penning a declaration in which the embodiment of all men being created equal is encompassed)

Trying to cement that there is no conflict of interest. OGE is the office of government ethics (I'm sure I don't need to tell you that)...It seems they were trying to insure that everyone knew about it by getting the compliance signatures and making it highly visible.

Yea. That's actually part of the problem, one of cyclic redundancy. It's basically Conspiracy Theorists feeding Conspiracy Theorists.

For a long time I felt there was a need for a single repository for EVERY media outlet's regurgitation of what every Governmental official has ever said publicly, done publicly or cause they have espoused publicly, with an accompanying algorithm that puts key elements (either positive or negative) into the forefront. There is no way that any one single person can possibly be well informed about real-world issues when there is such a mish-mosh of bad data strewn among the good data.

The scope of the aforementioned is beyond comprehension...

Not terribly strange...a little perhaps, but it seems to me he didn't want to have to show any personal holdings with respect to their directorship, he merely wanted to be seen as an investor....I could be wrong, but it seems that way to me anyway

Yea, I saw that too. Though I don't think so. I think it's more build up to a wildly mediocre crescendo.

ETA: I would prefer more of a smoking gun, I just don't see it.

[dons flame retardant suit]

For my part, I think we need to have a Convention of States and pass through a few amendments; chief among them having to due with congressional term limits. I would also like to see an anti-family dynasty type amendment that would prevent things like the Bushes and the Clintons from engaging in the kinds of shenanigans they've been up to going as far back as we can trace their activities.

[highly controversial idea alert]I would also like to see some sort of very basic civics exam given in order to be able to vote. A person ought to be able to at least name the main branches of government and identify their purpose. They should even be able to name a few of the actual positions (not the people who hold the office, just the office itself) within each branch also. IMHO, someone who does not understand what it is they are participating in, should not be able to participate in something so important. [/alert]

- Corporations are NOT people

- Lobbying needs to be seriously curtailed if not eliminated entirely

- In an industry such as banking, there should not be the ability to pay fines in order to escape prosecution for wrongdoing

- Anti-trust/monopoly laws need to be applied to the MSM; there should not be the ability for such a small number of companies to control such a large percentage of news stations

- With the exception of military planning and activity, there needs to be a LOT more actual transparency in govt operations rather than merely giving the idea lip service; we the people should not have to ask for documents via FOIA requests, everything should be made publicly available if it was made possible with public funds

- Major simplification of the tax code, perhaps the Fair Tax (national sales tax) so that the need for a massively overreaching bureaucracy does not have the power to run roughshod over anyone it so chooses

There are probably quite a few more items that could be done, but just off the top of my head those listed above would go a long way (imho) toward getting us back on track.

Once the above-mentioned housekeeping types of changes were made, we could then move toward developing a unifying vision for us as a nation.

Maybe a reinvigoration of the space program. We wouldn't even need to bring out secret tech, with currently known technology we could reduce the cost to get items to orbit drastically and have surplus power for a wide range of infrastructure improvements that have not been addressed on a meaningful scale since we originally built the interstate highway system.

Does that answer your question?

lol, no need. I have no interest in flaming anyone, more especially those who answer honestly.

Agree, I don't have much to add to that.

Yikes! Definitely controversial because in essence what you're saying is that, those who don't "pass" the basic civics exam are too stupid to vote. (I'm not one to mince words) That also precludes the concept of simply having misread the question, anxiety in testing environments etc etc....It also promotes an elitist mentality "Hah! I'm smarter than you because I can vote
" That's dangerous as it prevents anyone who suffers from any type of anxiety or a simple misreading to effect change in something that is indelible to their lifestyle AND QOL in general.

Now, with all that said and out of the way, I wholeheartedly agree. In another thread here I said something about opinions that I also believe about their opinions on voting, while everyone thinks they have the "right" to an opinion, I will vehemently disagree with that concept. I think everyone has the right to an informed opinion, but no one has the right to be ignorant....so yes, I agree completely.

- Corporations are NOT people

Correct

- Lobbying needs to be seriously curtailed if not eliminated entirely

Yes, but don't cut off your nose to spite your face...lobbying it too broad a stroke to paint...lobbying against the will of the people is what should be curtailed, imho.

- In an industry such as banking, there should not be the ability to pay fines in order to escape prosecution for wrongdoing

Ok, yes...or in any industry? Or any litigation?

- Anti-trust/monopoly laws need to be applied to the MSM; there should not be the ability for such a small number of companies to control such a large percentage of news stations

I couldn't agree more. Point / Counter-point exists for a reason...we cant live with Point / Point.

- With the exception of military planning and activity, there needs to be a LOT more actual transparency in govt operations rather than merely giving the idea lip service; we the people should not have to ask for documents via FOIA requests, everything should be made publicly available if it was made possible with public funds

This is a tough one to justify for most people...honestly the vast majority, whether they admit it or not, will gladly shed liberty for security, myself not being one of them. Essentially they ask for our trust in that they will choose the right course of action. instead I suggest that each citizen (based upon completion of your aforementioned civics exam and subsequent passage) be given a device that allows them to cast a ballot anytime there is an issue that would affect every American. We don't need to have transparency if we constantly vote on something we collectively want. Congress need not be the only Aye / Nay sayers in the land.

- Major simplification of the tax code, perhaps the Fair Tax (national sales tax) so that the need for a massively overreaching bureaucracy does not have the power to run roughshod over anyone it so chooses

Yea. That is all, yea lol

Or even a re-imagining of the space program. I dunno, see I always thought magnetism was the key to FTL space travel...maybe it is and maybe it isn't, but without active research we will never know! I would love to see that more than I can express.

Does that answer your question?

Quite elaborately, thank you
