Brother got that sound using basically an MXR distortion stompbox that was setup to act more like an overdrive pedal. He had other pedals on his pedalboard, like the standard wah wah and a chorus box, but he managed some insane metal tones using basic blues music theory and a very simplistic setup.

Compared to someone like Flea (granted a bass player, but still) who uses a smorgasboard of pedals and it's pretty amazing how crazy Randy's sound was.

In for the 10th flag!

Randy Rhodes? Never heard of her. Polka dot V guitars? Meh. He died the year I was born? Why should I care!?

Some light reading.

Hell of a guy with more talent than he was able to fully expose. What a shakeup he would have caused on todays music.

Awesome! Someone who appreciates talent when they see it! Thanks for that!
My son is in a band, he plays bass, self taught. He can hear a song one time, then literally play the entire song within minutes! I'm not musical, so it boggles my mind! they've played all over jersey, philly, and down the coast! So I CERTAINTLY appreciate one of the best performers to ever hit the stage! He really was one of the best!! So sad........

Randy was god when I was 13 or 14. I remember when he died, all the girls at school were crying, well all the cool ones anyway (
).

I saw Ozzy with Jake E Lee at the the US festival in 1983 before Bark at the Moon, I am sorely bummed to this day that I missed seeing Randy Rhoads by such a short time.

Love those first two solo Ozzy albums
