The two black holes in NGC6240 are now about 3,000 light-years apart and are expected to merge sometime in the next few hundred million years, the researchers said.

BTW this is the first time 2 blackholes were found in the same galaxy .... also the nearest black hole to us is 3,000 light years away...

what exactle would happen if 2 black holes merged?

Is there a chance they'd reverse eachother? or do they just merge?

Because they are both pulling each other out right?

Too bad I wont even be dust when this happens.

Maybe this is how wormholes are born? The two blackholes pulling each other together with such a vacume that they create an open rift in space dimensions. I don't really know alot about the physics of space theory, as so far thats all it is. So any guess is good or not.

Awsome find though, worth keepng an eye on if anything happens spontaneously.

well i am sure that one of the singularities of one of the black holes is more dense than the other so one will probably have a greater gravitational pull thus sucking one of the black holes into the other...i dont see how they could merge together.

Actually, they are almost certain that once one black hole gobbles up another, the more dense one becomes larger, aka increases its gravitational power. I have another blackhole find that you might find interesting... let me see if I can get it and post it.

If black holes destroy all matter then how can something without matter do anything to something else withoutmatter?

they have matter....at the very center of a black hole there is a "singularity" which has supposedly no size but is super dense...that is what causes the immense gravity. So I would guess that the one with a larger density/gravitational pull would suck the other one in and become even more powerful.

Blackholes aren't matterless, they are extremely dense matter to the point of warping space beyond the point that light can escape. Think about the power of gravity. Gravity is the warping of spacetime and everything, even light, must follow the contours of spacetime... if light gets to a point where it cannot leave the pit created by the blackhole (event horizon), it endless spirals down into the darkness of the blackhole. What makes the blackhole unique is that it traps light, but remember that all stars bend light with their gravitational fields, so a blackhole is only taking that to an extreme.

Scientists are saying if the 2 black holes collide into one another it would create a ripple throughout the universe. Scientist are saying the ripple would put the universe 1 minute ahead of time and the result of this action is unknown...

about Black Holes is "theory" at best...should be interesting... Osobad and Protector both make valid points as to what "should" happen, but we'll only know when it occurs....

Wouldn't the larger of the two simply absorb the other one? BTW, this topic sounds like a black gay porno film.
