'Apparent' is the word.

Here is the same area in Google Earth's Mars section firstly in colour, and then a Mars Orbiter view.





The better the image quality, the less angular the feature.

Here is where it is:

Here's the same formation imaged by HiRISE with a resolution of 26cm/pixel:

I guess the dark colored sand around it makes it look like shadows at low resolution and with the oblique view of the MOC camera.

It would help if you could use an edit program and highlight where in the photo you're talking about. Microsoft Paint, Adobe Photoshop, whatever.

While I've seen some compelling images of anomalies at Hale Crater and a few other spots, the one you're linking doesn't look anomalous to me.
