Guns are not banned and in theory anything upto and including nuclear weapons are available to the average person if you can get the home secretary drunk enough to sign the forms...

uk law limits "bear arms as defined by law" where as the US places them above the law to a point, currently we need a piece of paper to say we're allowed and somewhere nice and safe to keep it from waking up and randomly attacking people

It's not that hard to get a gun legally if you fancy the paperwork etc and theres loads of 12bores, hunting rifles, modified air rifles/pistols and what not available if you know who to speak with.
