At least 71 people injured as lightning strikes Rock am Ring festival in Germany

German press are reporting at least 71 festival goers were Injured , 15 seriously , and that 2 people had to be resuscitated when lightning struck Germany's Rock am Ring festival last night , organizers have rightly said the show will go on.

I'm sure many here have had experience of a storm at a festival but few would expect for something like this to happen , thoughts go out to fellow festival goers involved in this incident.

The festival was interrupted for about half an hour on Friday, as rock and metal fans were told to seek shelter in their tents and steer clear of the stage. At least 15 people, however, have received serious injuries and had to be taken to hospitals, as of early Saturday. The police also told the AP two people had to be resuscitated on site.

As a sailor i have witnessed a lot of lightning strike directly to the ships mast, it's loud and scary and you feel the power of the shock, though there are no danger unless you get the hit.

Some pictures here, that includes a plane on the ground being hit. Some of those injuries are serious.

So, they knew there was bad weather, and precautions weren't enough, or were precautions not taken soon enough? The article doesn't really make that clear.

Well, the destroyed town is one of many German and mainland European towns seriously damaged by VAST rainfalls and serious storms over the last few days. As for the water cannon I have absolutely no idea what it was doing there. Could be trying to clear slick mud or oily mud from the road, but if so, you would have thought that the Germans would have a better method for that. I mean, their version of the Automobile Association has trucks that transform into a fully equipped roadside garage, so you have to assume they have better options for highway surface maintenance, than a commandeered police water cannon.
