Thats nuts. You'd most likely know about it when you moved in together.

I think just like in some places...all schools, churches, public bathrooms ought to be like the ones we see in some places:

A sign saying either, "UNISEX Restroom", or "Restroom" with nothing about gender on it. Solved! A restroom labeled as such, and quit all the debate.

And we already have that in a lot of places. I do at my work...

I had a transgender roommate for a while about 15 years or so ago. Her long dark brown hair kept clogging up the sink in the bathroom. I asked her to be more careful with that.

It wouldnt bother me at all. Ive never felt uncomfortable around a transgender or even a crossdresser.

My first best friend was/is a lesbian. Looks like a dude. A good friend of mine is a contractor doing manly work. Crossdresses with his wife on the weekends. Never phased me once.
