The Viking boat set sail from Norway to the US.

Draken Harald Hårfagre – the specifications

Measurements:

35 m (115 ft) long

8 m (26ft 2in) wide

24 m (78ft 8in) high

2,5 m (8 ft 2 in) draught

260 square meters sail

Materials:

Hull: Oak

Mast: Douglas fir

Sail: Silk

Rigg: Hemp

Draken Harald Hårfagre is a clinker-built Viking longship. She is not a replica of a known ship, she is a reconstruction of what the Norse Sagas refer to as a “Great ship”. Knowledge of history, and especially the Norse sagas, archeological findings and Norwegian boatbuilding traditions combined created the world’s largest Viking ship sailing in modern times.

I see that the mast is constructed from a Douglass Fir.
Where would a Viking find a Douglass Fir?

I wish I didn't work in contract law and instead was a sailor. I learned Old Norse in grad school (am fluent in German / dad is German) - but this is like bucket list material here...

Do they need anyone to recite runic poetry on the ride and row an oar??
