Palmyra LIberated

Syrian Army alliance is a term i coined for ( Syrian Army , NDF , Russia , Hezbullah and Iran)

The first photos coming out of UNESCO World Heritage Site Palmyra since its liberation from Islamic State terrorists have raised hopes that the unique architecture of the ancient Syrian city can be restored.

The pictures in that link breaks my heart, so many ancient structures destroyed by those savages. On the plus side this is the biggest defeat for ISIS since it inception. Russians have done their job. Syrian Army is on its way to take Raqqa and ISIS is on a retreat in Iraq while the Kurds have begun establishing a state for themselves. Syrian Army has changed leaps and bounds after Russian intervention. Many believe Russian intervention was only in air power. But the main Russian intervention was officer level. Russians have been interacting with Syrian military officers advising them increasing their effectiveness and stopping them from taking incredibly stupid decisions.

Russians have not completely left Syria, The below pic shows Russian Special forces (Spetnaz) inside Palmyra. They have been operating along SYrian Special forces.

RIP to the Russian Special forces officer. So i did a bit of research on this

Link

"The soldier died heroically, calling the strike onto himself after he was discovered and surrounded by terrorists," Interfax cited the source as saying.

I Imagine the air strike ended up killing plenty of other ISIS Rats

good on them, I am not a fan of syria, and dont believe Russia is operating with any altruistic notions...

But anything that brings that country closer to stability is a good thing.

the only thing that can bring stability in that region is a nuke.

Edit: Make that two nukes.

This is very good news. Another blow against the Islamic State and their foreign backers.

Thanks to Russia and Iran for continuing to help free the Syrian and Iraqi people from the terrorist menace.

Congrats to them and good on the Russians for helping them when the rest of the world would rather use Syria as a chess board to play their proxy war games.

It's a crime what Isis has done to such a historical city, hopefully all the mines will be found and cleared and not end up like other places where mines are still being cleared despite the area becoming peaceful decades ago

No, it really isn't.

People like you advocate for the greatest genocide in human history. Think about the words you speak.

This would be the biggest victory for the Syrian army and allies against ISIS but the Syrian rebels and Iraqi forces have been taking cities and territory for over a year. ISIS has pulled what can to defend its two capitals Mosul and Raqqa where they are making their last stand. Everywhere else they barely have any control at this point. Mosul is under siege and the SDF has been making such fast advances on Raqqa that they have had to slow down to provide security in all the liberated territory. Outside of the two Capitals ISIS is not doing much beyond suicide attacks. Once the Iraqs and Syrian rebels began coordinating attacks on major targets at the same time with US hitting anything that moved to reinforce them it was pretty much game over for ISIS. While it is nice to the Syrian Army finally getting in on the ISIS action it is two bad they could not have done so back when ISIS started wrecking Palmya.

Syria - How The Palmyra Victory Changes the Narrative

The liberation of Palmyra is a decisive turning point in the war on Syria. While there were earlier military successes by the Syrian Arab Army and its allies, the publicity value of securing the valued Roman ruins of Palmyra is much higher than any earlier victory. It will change some of the false narratives of the conflict.

The Syrian government is no longer "the Assad regime" and the Syrian Arab Army no longer the "Assad forces". Ban Ki Moon, the head of the United Nations, congratulated the Syrian government to its success:
...

The myth that the Syrian and Russian government are in cahoots with the Islamic State, told by various propagandist as well as the British and U.S. government, has now proven to be false.

Why is David Cameron so silent on the recapture of Palmyra from the clutches of Isis?

So the diehard Baal worshipers ISIS morons destroyed their gods temple just to try and find gold LOL. The Irony is hysterical.

Syria's Director of Antiquities Maamoun Abdul Karim stated that ISIL were looking for treasures and "stores of gold" in the city.[11] On 30 August 2015, the Associated Press reported that the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant had partially demolished the temple by explosives, citing eyewitness accounts.[12][13] The bricks and columns were reported as lying on the ground and only one wall was reported as remaining, according to a Palmyra resident.[14][15] The damage was also attested by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.[16] Syria's antiquities chief Maamoun Abdulkarim later stated that although there was an explosion within the temple's perimeter, "the basic structure is still standing".[17] However, these reports were proved to be incorrect. On August 31, 2015 the United Nations confirmed the temple's destruction after reviewing satellite imagery, "We can confirm destruction of the main building of the Temple of Bel as well as a row of columns in its immediate vicinity" reported by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).[18][4] The BBC issued a video report showing the satellite images and the destruction described by Einar Bjorgo, manager of UN Satellite Imaging (UNOSAT UNITAR).[19]

The russians must have done a lot of damage to isis in the 6 months that they were there bombing them. The U.S. spent 2 years bombing isis and didn`t make obvious difference.

Iran has launched ballistic missiles against IS, supporting Iraqi offensive on Makhmur. Russia has managed to bring Iraq, Iran and Syria to co-ordinate with each other. Loss of ISIS and FSA would mean the west will loose influence through out the middle east.

Joint Moderate/ISIS surprise offensive in Aleppo. FSA and Rebels have broke the Ceasefire agreement. Offensive has failed

One of the comments on twitter

How convenient; When "rebels" were losing North Aleppo; ISIS attacked Khanaser When "ISIS" lost #Palmyra, "rebels" Attack South #Aleppo

I think it's more that Russia was coordinating directly with a ground army and training them, and probably had some Spetsnaz working in there as well.

More comparable would be US help of Iraqi army, but the Iraqi army is much less competent.

Another blow to ISIS, SAA liberates Quaratyn from ISIS. Apparantly SAA had the area surrounded and the retreat covered before the final offensive started. ALl the high positions surrounding Quaratyn was already taken over by the Syrian Army. The Entire ISIS retreat was a disaster as Syrian troops shot them to bits
