Well he failed to mention the best part of using this method to start your fire....you can string the rest of the nails and play it like a ukulele while sitting by the fire you have built.

You could then use the lemon in your whiskey sour.

Guess no one read through the comment section...

you would have found this:

Debunked...... guy demonstrates that not enough voltage could possibly be generated using 1 lemon,,, maybe if you took 20 or so and ran them in parallel.

Someone give it a shot and let me know how it works out for you....I will stick with the old fashioned method...magnifying glass and sunlight... I torched enough ants as a kid to know that works.... torched a couple of spots on myself as well,.. because that's what kids do...LOL

I could say I was wondering about it shorting.
But I guess it's too late for that.

Now... add an electrolytic cap and a small DC-DC upconverter...
Perhaps it could work!

Cool....but not very practical. Wouldnt it make more sense just to carry matches or a lighter ?

Not if you live on a windy lemon farm in a SHTF situation.

Haha!

Throw a lime and a leather shoe in the mix and you have an anti-matter bomb.

cool vid OP.

Yeah, with no separators, I think you got a bunch of shorted out cells and one good one.

eta: if you had a handful of silver dimes and old copper pennies, some paper towels and something to hold them in a stack, you could squeeze out the lemon juice, wet dime sized pieces of paper towel, put them in between coins in an alternating silver-copper stack, and make enough power to do the trick.

as a " survival tip " this rates as ` true but utterly irrelevant `

it makes a great party trick though

think about this when was the last time you had all the required ` ingredients ` to hand - but no other way of starting a fire ?

Had an ad in an engineering magazine once showing a cpci cpu board running on lemon batteries. I don't think it sold anything but it was fun doing it.

The battery and steel wool definitely works. It just needs to be a non alkaline battery, any old battery doesn't do the trick unfortunately.

This guy in the OP video is biting off a successful youtuber who goes by 'CrazyRussianHacker'. (was obvious as soon as I heard the intro)

This video by CrazyRussianHacker from about 6 days ago, is probably where the guy in OP video got his inspiration.

But still, who carries potasium permanganate in their bug out bag?

And sugar?

According to Wiki, potassium permanganate is common for

Survival kits Potassium permanganate is typically included in survival kits: as a fire starter (mixed with antifreeze from a car radiator or glycerin),[19] water sterilizer, and for creating distress signals on snow.
