Police: Homeowner hides 4 year old child in closet, shoots home invaders

Another home invasion ended on a positive note (assailant shot, another on the run). Neighbor reports that it appeared these thieves had struck before. This time, it did not go well.

Crime does not pay... especially in an armed society.

LITHONIA, GA (CBS46) -

A homeowner's quick action when home invaders kicked in their door led to a suspect dead and another on the run.

DeKalb County police said the victim ran to hide in shelter after two suspects kicked in their door on Fairington Ridge Circle in Lithonia just before 1 p.m. Friday.

Police said the adult took the 4-year-old and a handgun to hide in a bedroom. When the suspects entered the bedroom, the adult came out of the closet and shot one of the suspects, an 18-year-old male.

The suspect died in Grady Memorial Hospital, another is still on the run, police said.

On topic...Must have been a scary experience for the child, you are right OP crime does not pay in an armed society...well unless you are the government and their minions

Your on a roll today with the stories you've posted relating defensive gun uses while facing lethal situations. The White Center thread you started earlier has gotten a lot of airplay in my neck of the woods, and it's a refreshing change as these types of stories are usually relegated to page 4 of local news. Kudos!

Fantastic. I'm glad the homeowner didn't have to pray for police to arrive in time, which wouldn't have happened. Who knows what they would've done to the homeowner and child, but thanks to the 2nd Amendment we won't have to find out.
