David, me thinks guns are illegal in UK because you let them push through the law without a fight. You needed to have something like the NRA fo help you fight these kind of laws. They have been trying to get the same thing passed in the US for years. Why? Simple.
You cannot sugjigate an armed population. They use all kinds of scare tactics, and they work with some people.
Believe me, that is the main aim behind the 'gun control' issue. When congress wouldn't appropriate the funds they needed to expand gun control, they declared it a medical issue, and used funds from the CDC to expand.
Don't get me wrong, I believe in gun control, but for me gun control means hitting what you aim at.

I have to agree with Starwalker.

Dont know if you were following my debate with Jarrod about FEMA, but I made this statement....

Currently, in America, there is approximately 300 million individuals who have come from, or have at least adopted, the mantel of freedom from tyrrany and oppression by totalitarian governments. This freedom is over 230 years old, and is ingrained as an integral part of the American people and government. You cannot yank that kind of heritage out from under such a large population and not expect to have severe opposition and resistance. Considering that at least 170 million of those 300 million Americans are gun owners, in the event of a sudden and unprovoked crackdown on civil rights, the federal government would be facing the largest standing army in the world. (And they would be justifiably pissed.)

(By the way, that is the perfect arguement in a nutshell in favor of private gun ownership, but thats a whole different debate)

I think that pretty much explains it.

I find it difficult to get enthusiastic about the modern plastic firearms such as M-16 or Glock. I love the fine line of a 9mm Lugar or an older Baretta(sp?). Some of the Browning up and down shotgun with walnut stock looked so beautiful.

I now own a 308(Long range shot), a Marlin 30-30 bush gun (for riding and shooting, and I just love the 3 Qtr lever action), a Lugar and a Win. 12G pump. I would like to eventually get a older Browning 9MM and a older Browning 12G auto.

I have to agree... Im not too entralled with the plastic parabellums. I want good old steel and wood between me and a bad guy.

Also, I am particularly unenthused about the Glock, after seeing one go "convertible" on the range next to me... someone with a Glock 21 (.45) using standard factory ammo had it literally explode in his hand. It cracked the slide and chamber/barrel 1/2 its length, and blew the floorplate, spring, follower, and 4 rounds of ammo out the bottom of the grip.

If you are interested in this phenomena, google search for Glock Kaboom, you will find LOTS of photos of such incidents... Glock .40s tend to have it happen a lot.

I generally find European guns superior, especially those made in Italy and Germany. They've been making guns for many centuries and know when NOT to push the limit. Yes, I know, Browning is Bel . . .

I cannot complain too much about European guns, although I do have one complaint about the Berreta (the original, as they seem to have fixed the problems). The original Berreta 92F 9mm was found to have a structural problem during testing for the new US military sidearm, and after a few thousand rounds, the slide could crack and disable the gun (no reports of anyone being injured by this failure though).

The Berreta slide is inherently weak, as it focuses all recoil stress on just 2 bars of steel on each side, rather than a much larger area of metal as on other guns.

However, the new generation of Berretas seem to have fixed the problem.

You are right, that is THE perfect reason for private gun ownership.
This One World Government movement has been in the works for over 40 years and has had several major roadblocks in its path for years and has had to move quietly and slowly.
Now, several of the largest roadblocks have been removed, namely:
How to gather together all of Europe. To many governments with different views. That was accomplished with the Euro. Remember, control a governments money, you control that government.
Disarm the public, accomplished in UK, Aus., Canada and a host of smaller countries worldwide.
They have not been successful in the US, so what do you do?
You do 9/11
You magnify the terrorist threat.
You bring it home.
Now in the caos, you push through the Patriot Act, then
boslter it with the Patriot Act II.
And the American public (for some unknown reason I cannot fathom, still believes their government would not LIE to them), is willing to give up some of their basic freedoms and rights for some temporary (and maybe even immagined) safety and security.
Believe me, once given up, your rights are nearly impossible to regain.
YOU NEED TO READ THE PATRIOT ACT AND THE PATRIOT ACT II FOR YOURSELF. These acts undermine the Bill of Rights and the Constitution of the United States.
You need to contact your congressman and senators and tell them how you want them to vote on these issues. DON'T SIT BY AND LET THEM TAKE AWAY YOUR RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS.
Copies of these acts are available on the WWW
READ THEM

i though underage really support the 2nd ammendment and currently share ownership of a Sks semi with my brother. I also will inhierit a 2barrel 12gauge when i am 18. nice walnut stock short barrel. For personal use i have a WWII kar98 look a like chechnyan mauser. My personal choice in handguns is a Silver Hardballer all metal with black rubber-like polymeir gripps that have the Hitman symbol in white on them. For a long range rifle i prefer the Armalite ar108b w/4x28MM ammo, Then i will mod it with a 30 rnd clip and a better scope made leupold. For a backup pistol i will aquire a Kahr p40 that uses .40S&W.

Okay, after 14 edits on that last post. I'm just gonna start over:

I think it would have been funnier the first time.

i am not a violent person, and the country where i live the right to have a gun is just for hunt.
But i like The Desert Eagle as a handgun
i had a friend that got one (he has REALLY GOOD contacts in america), but i really think is too brutal, the weight must be around 4 kg, u must carry the gun with both hands, but is beautiful.
Anyway i must disagree a bit with DR and Starwalker
because having a population full of weapons, the goverment will have no mercy to clean the place from rebelds, or people that doesnt like or want the actual goverment. It gives them reasons to be more strict...
U may be right with the biggest army of people, and well armed, but do not forget why and how the goverment controls always. Have a gun is also very dangerous because everybody wants to be defended of another person that carries a gun as well, so what u get is not security but a Gun battle everywhere, u can see the difference of crime and assasinations in america, and in the rest of the world, and even the states has the biggest amount of police per person in the world, and 65% of population with a gun, and still all that happening, i really dont like the right to have a gun, because if anybody has one there is no use for it
