It has long been known that men are prone to more risk-taking behavior, especially late teens-early 20s. Here is a study showing it may not be age dependent. This includes a Soundcloud interview with Dennis William Lendrem, project manager, Institute of Cellular Medicine, Abstract, Methods and references.

Men are Idiots..study shows

There is a 7 or 8 fold risk for males compared to females

Many more ER visits to the Newcastle emergency dept. for fatal car accidents were male than female.

As a male I'll say this. What did you expect?

If the study is in Newcastle then it has no validity.10/10 males in Newcastle are dumb and risk taking has nothing to do with it. I think booze might have something to do with the car crashes.

Yet they are still 100x less likely to nag about non-issues.

What I've noticed is the lack of fear of consequences. When you remind them of the 90% possibility that they'll be broken and bloody if they do that which they're thinking of, they look at you weird and say "you say that like its a bad thing..."

No, they are 100% more likely to believe something is a non issue.

1) House is on fire. "I am watching the game. Non issue"
2)Please take the garbage out. "hate taking the garbage out. Non issue"
2) Let's go to the mall for Christmas shopping. "Hate the mall...oh wait, RC planes are on sale at Sharper Image!!! let's go!!"

Oh gawd, can we please stop the sexist bickering?

Men and Women have different wiring, and different levels of hormones. Can we simply stick to the truth that both males and females can be idiots in their own ways? They can also be brilliant in their own ways.

How the hell is this news worthy? Common freaking sense.

It is a scientific study that I found amusing. I could have put it in Jokes, but it is a real study with real scientists.
It is mainly about risk taking behavior. I was not saying one is better than the other. relax.

When I was young, dumb, and full of...never mind, I used to be a bit of a daredevil. None of my stunts involved speeding or anything, just riding on top of the car or on the hood. Sometimes I'd ride in the trunk. It's a wonder I was never killed or arrested. If cell phones were around then like they are now I would have gone to jail for something or other.

According to “male idiot theory” (MIT) many of the differences in risk seeking behaviour, emergency department admissions, and mortality may be explained by the observation that men are idiots and idiots do stupid things.

It's not science, it's nonsense.

By the same reasoning I can conclude that men are geniuses, and geniuses do great things.

More Male Geniuses

We have more variability, women trend towards the norm.

It is a scientific study that references about 15 case studies and books that have similar results. It's is only on one topic.

IQ has little relation to risk taking behavior.

Well you missed the point, but no that's not correct, either.

IQ tends to temper risk-taking.

Anyways, not a big deal, just saying the foundation of the theory is shaky at best.

I don;t know where you find that. Having a high IQ is linked to more instances of MDD. Bi-Polar disorder, anxiety and self medicating behavior to 'relax' a brain that is often in high gear. You have heard the term 'mad scientist' ? That is not a scientific term, but it has roots in reality.

All of those "dangerous" male behaviors are the exact same that kept the human race around for a few thousand years.

As the Marines say, "Somebody has got to do it."

True, the need for those characteristics have been greatly diminished over time, but yet they are a strong part of what make us human just a nurturing is in the female domain.

That's just not true, sorry. This is pop culture stats, not reality.

I heard it from... not hearing it, actually looking at studies over the years.

You know what you'll find? What you're looking for. That's how pop culture works.
