Daily Telegraph - a very reliable, conservative newspaper with an excellent website is saying the following (see link above)

In the case that none of the survivors or their heirs cannot be found, all the gold and other found property belonging to Jewish families or businesses should return for the surviving Polish Jews, because unfortunately they never were not adequately compensated by Poland for the suffering they endured and their devastating economic losses from the time of the Holocaust.

This words were published at World Jewish Congress's opinion about "Gold Train". Really?

Please, wish You well lecture.

Oh the irony...

Russia stakes claim to the lost treasures in Poland's missing Nazi gold train

The secret contents of the Nazi gold train located in Poland is fast becoming the centre stage of an international row even before any treasure has been retrieved. The Kremlin could claim any valuables in the locomotive as compensation for wartime losses, according to reports.

"Representatives of Russia should undoubtedly be involved in determining the value of the items discovered if the train is located," lawyer Mikhail Joffe told Sputnik News. "In this case, Poland is obliged to engage international experts to clarify what is in the cargo.

"If the property has been taken from territory, including USSR, then the cargo, in accordance with international law, must be passed to the Russian side," he added.

Yesterday (29 August), it was reported that the train could contain the ornate "Amber Room" crafted from amber, gold and precious jewels. Now thought to be worth about £250m, the Nazis dismantled the chamber from Catherine Palace, near St Petersburg in 1941 and took it to Konigsberg (now Kaliningrad) before it vanished. The valuable chamber was gifted to Tsar Peter the Great by the King of Prussia in 1716.

Rival claims over treasure train

Despite Russian claims to the treasure trove, Poland has insisted that any riches belong to the state. "The analysis we have conducted with our lawyers quite clearly states that if the train is found it will be owned by the State Treasury," Piotr Zuchowski, a vice minister for conservation, told Poland's Radio Jedynka. It will take months for the train to be reached as it is thought to be buried in a tunnel laden with booby-traps.

I wonder if Poland can claim "Russia's share" considering they were allied with the Nazis and coordinated an invasion and occupation of Poland.

Again, Patton was spot on...

Based on nothing except common sense, if any nation should see benefit from the treasure, Poland has suffered through no fault of their own.

I might be mistaken, but the Russians fought heavily against the Nazi's.

I think the paintings should be traced back to the owners or put in a museum for Poland.
10% should go to the finders
The remaining sections should be divided up between Poland, Russia and a couple of charities.

It seems that news on this "possible" find has run very cold and with the only real updates being the possibility of the people that pointed out this location to the authorities being possibly sent to prison for "tampering with the ground??".

www.dailymail.co.uk... and-illegal-search.html

And then on the 15 December it was reported after a survey that nothing is there??.

www.bbc.co.uk...

So what do we make of this story so far?, we have a couple of guys that have ground penetrating radar images of what look like turrets etc etc that had their story leaked it would seem by someone in a offical position. They now face criminal charges for a Illegal search and a long list of people that are laying claim to the cache.

Also what would the knock on effect be (if any) to the value of gold if such a find was ever made and would it be big enough to surpress such a find?..

All in its not looking good for the would be tresure hunters out there, from what I have read these guys seem to have done the right thing yet they are still in hot water?, In a day and age where some really high tech equipment is available to the general public that was once only being used by specialist firms it stands to reason that finds like this could be more prominent in the future and by the way this is being handled what would the incentive be to go down offical channels knowing what the end result could be.

If true, whats the bet that this supposed train is missing the 300 tonnes of gold on board, or at least a rather significant proportion?

This video has some more info on the subject.

It wouldnt surprise me if the gold isnt there. Gold has a way of "disappearing". Just like the Japanese gold in the Philippines. Gold disappears, and someone suddenly buys hundreds of shoes and takes lots of trips.
