I live south of Phoenix in the Sonoran desert and grew up in Colorado.
In Colorado it was not uncommon to have lightning storms at least a couple of times a summer where the whole sky just lit up non-stop for a couple of
hours. And even on occasion, thunder rolling without stop.
South of Phoenix in the desert we get dry thunderstorms, that is a lot of lightning with no rain, a lot of time in the summer. And it is quite
spectacular, and very very common. You can sit outside with a chair and just watch the lightning light up the sky endlessly, for sometimes an hour or
two.
