A recently released government report indicates that there is a plot by Al Qaeda to target New Year's Eve celebrations in London. The document also indicates that the threat to military and government installations around the country still exists. The threat has been somewhat reduced, but not eliminated.

A secret intelligence report has revealed that security chiefs believe al-Qaeda may target New Year celebrations across Britain, The Telegraph has learned.

The document, which has been distributed to every military base in Britain warns that "crowded places or events" are under "a severe threat" of attack from terrorist bombers. The report, which is marked "restricted", is understood to have been compiled by military intelligence specialists, MI5 and Special Branch officers.

Crowds gather in Trafalgar Square on New Year's Eve

Under the heading "International Terrorism", the report warns that military personnel and establishments within the Government Security Zone in central London, which includes Horse Guards in Whitehall, and Buckingham and St James's Palaces, face a "substantial" threat of attack. It says military bases across the country are also facing a similar threat.

In the past several possible plots to attack civilian and government targets in the United Kingdom have been stopped. Even so, it appears that there may be even more attempts to attack England.

As many experts have said in the past, it is not a matter of if there will be an attack, but when will there be an attack. I am hopeful that the New Year's celebrations will not turn into a tragedy.

Hmm I wonder if the FBI is keeping quite about any intel they have on the US. Times Square comes to mind.

Actually, US Intel official say they are hearing very little chatter right now.
WAR: Little Chatter About Any New Terror Plot
So they either aren't hearing anything, or they aren't telling us.
I think that the lack of the chatter here probably means that they are focusing their efforts elsewhere. Although some have said that it is because they aren't capable of launching any strikes, and some think they are quiet because they have gone operational.

Didn't just about everyone have this last year?

Most New Year's celebrations around the world have been peaceful - centuries of tradition against a backdrop of often tight security.

London's Metropolitan Police said there was a "high state of alert" but there were no specific terrorist threats for New Year's Eve.

For many in Britain, the weather appeared a more immediate threat to the festivities than terrorism.

...And the year before?

Japanese streamed into temples, Russians packed a frigid Red Square and revelers from around the world crowded the confetti-strewn streets of New York's Times Square to greet the new year amid global concerns about war and terrorism.

Authorities around the world had braced for the threat of terrorism.

There's nothing wrong with being prepared but the boogyman act is getting old.

Oh yeah, this story does come up most every year since September 11th. Shoot a similar story lead up to the 2000 New Year eve, except the destruction of the world was going to be caused by man's reliance on computers, and their fallibility.

But just because it happens every year does not make it any less newsworthy.

With the recent flurry of tapes from Osama it almost seems as if he is either preparing the world for their next big strike, or he desperately wants to remain in the public eye and be taken seriously.

There are plenty of articles on here regarding Al Qaeda and what may be their plans.

....very possible that a terrorist strike could take place in Brittain, but how come these"restricted" reports always semi purposely leak out?

Actually the US intellligence keeping quiet about possible new years attacks, should perhaps be MORE CONCERNING!!!

Are you refering to the rumors that a shadowy US organization has planned a staged attack? I thought that was supposed to go off today?

Of course if they do know something, and are not acting on it that is down right irresponsible. But if they know something, and aren't "publicly" releasing the intel, well that could be different. You don't always want to tip your hand. If you know what they know, you might not want to let them know that you know what they know.

Clear as mud, right

Actually these warnings have been happening every year as far as I can remember. Usually, in my life time, they have been warnings against IRA attacks.

Correct me if I'm incorrect, was there not a warning that a threat excisted for the Indonesia area at one time? (Recently) I might be going out into left field here but, can it be a indication of sorts, there might of been the intentions on their behalf to first attack there, but... a higher power took over, knowing the loss that has been realize as a result of this Earth Quake, would be far worse to have a Weapon to cause a dimmer outcome. At the same time, it gives us/them, time to realize that our attempts to destroy ourselfs for reasons that are so weak, this has been proven, Look at 'some' of our history... That this event may have given us the time to think differently? My question will always be, Why kill to make a point, the power is within the Pen, and how it is written.

AnyWay, back to the Question and Concern,

My thoughts are that if any attempts were to be attempted, and making the real difference, would consist of all Coast/Ports/Refineries that provide our commerence, as well as the worlds.. As far as the events that might surround this effort, will always be the other question. I believe the targets are already choosen. This is where I go back to my first point. If not, it will continue to be Ugly.
