PHILADELPHIA – President Obama on Thursday asked wary House Democrats to hold their fire, while the administration negotiates several trade deals opposed by scores of liberal lawmakers.

Source

Ouch that's got to sting!

Keep your powder a little dry,” he told the Democrats assembled here for an annual retreat, according to a source in the closed-door session.

"Get informed," Obama also advised, "not by reading The Huffington Post."

Gasp!

I thought the Huff Po was the gospel!

Top House Democrats, including Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), have drawn an additional line in the sand, saying they won't support any new trade deal before the administration can demonstrate that the result will be higher wages for American workers.

Dear Pelosi ?

Anyone with half a brain knows you simply can not COMPETE on a global scale with high wages.

This is why China has grown in to such a giant these days.

Anyhow I got a kick out of this article.

Thought I would 'spread the wealth', and share.

Don't care what your opinions of left, and right are, but make no mistake.

Those trade deals are going to screw EVERYONE.

I am in shock!

The Huff Po is the Progressive "word of god". The Mecca of progressiveness.

This should be interesting.

On a side note, ever notice there is not a problem with Bi-partisan support on bills that screw the common person?

He definitely isn't a gun person.

Definitely not!

That is why he goes off half cocked all the time.

The Huffington Post has been highly critical of Obama for... 3-4 years now.

Sure you can..

Racing to match China on slave labor and pay conditions here in the States to compete with them is a race to the bottom of the barrel.

We need to assign import tariffs to all the sh*& originating from anyplace on the globe that employs pseudo-slave labor and raise the minimum wage.

Think about why jobs leave this country. Which means what there ?

LESS products to be shipped for trade.

We then IMPORT those same products back here.

Utterly nonsensical.

Competition : Being able to offer low cost products others can't.

In this case as the Pelosi's can't see the forest for the trees.

Nancy Pelosi and "top" House Democrats drawing lines on Obama sounds very very suspicious.

Something else is in play here.

Something sinister probably.

Who stands to make the most from these trade deals?

Hmmm.

China in this case.

Those high wages that make us less competitive is guaranteed, and increase the trade deficit.

And creates more outsourcing.

When someone else can offer a cheaper product people really don't care where it comes from.

Well, Germany seems to be doing quite well.

But not much was heard about trade. That is in sharp contrast with the Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang's recent visit to Germany, where trade was hailed as part of the Sino-German "Dream Team." And dream it is. Last year, the German trade shortfall with China came in at less than 5 percent of the whopping $315 billion U.S. trade deficit with Beijing. U.S. and German exports to China were roughly comparable in 2012, but U.S. imports from China were 4.4 times bigger than what Germany bought in China.

Well, Germany seems to be doing quite well.

That's because we mostly export high quality products/tech, and thus compete and still ensure high wages.

Somewhat off-topic edit:
*The 'industrial-logistics deal' with China ties into another CT-topic btw: the "gold-yuan".
It is rumoured that the Chinese recent visits (including to Switzerland) were really mainly about that.
There was a heavily guarded visit at the German Bundesdruckerei for example - which makes NO sense (...without that context)

We can absolutely compete with China et al. First we need to scroll back worker protections, eliminate OSHA and Child Labor Laws, eliminate the minimum wage, have a government that turns a blind eye when factories go up in flames killing hundreds of people like in India etc.

I am just of the mind that is not the right course for this country.

Absent that...it would seem the other option is to assign import tariffs to products originating from places that do that in the world.

We are the worlds biggest economy, we spend twice what China does...china will either straighten up and spend more for labor or suffer tariffs.

Either way it puts us on equal ground to compete.

The issue is that the money and wealthy individuals that influence policy in the USA derive that money through Multi-National corporations that make Trillions at the expense of the American worker.

As it stands we will never compete with cheap products abroad as long as their is a gulf in human rights/worker rights.

Two ways to bridge that gulf...Meet them on their terms (Child Labor, Slave Wages and Conditions) or we can demand they compete on our terms and as the biggest economy on the globe, that seems more in keeping with American ideals.

We also need to match them on pollution! Air, water, land!

Change the regulations! .... or, just spend less on enforcement!

No one can compete with China.

Nice hyperbole btw the way.

The will low ball their products even more so.

Americans will never give up them champagne wishes, and caviar dreams.

That progressive ideology is pricing themselves out of existence.

To think otherwise is delusional.

Anyone who reads HuffPo is a liberal-in-name-only.

Anti-science garbage with political ideals as solid as a bowl of warm Jell-O.

Raw Story and Alternet are now the far left 'go to' for rhetoric filled partisan junk stories. Huffington Post is left, but they are more professional and have better sourcing. I'm not all that surprised that Obama is steering the masses away from Huffington Post.

On the left - Raw Story and Alternet.
The right equivalent - The Blaze and Brietbart.

Huffington Post is to the left, what NewsMax is to the right. IMHO.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.
