because there are humans running this site. and they get 5 raises a year, work 4 hours a week, spend too much time bragging to ugly women at the minit mart about their "website". you know, what makes most humans fail. human nature.

NLBS seems sometimes like it has an agenda

Joe is a member of ATS.

Was he a member before the show started?
Was he active, what was his username?

Yes, he was a member before NLBS started and yes he was active. As for his username, that would fall under the heading of being unable to discuss banned members. To create the NLBS identity, Joe had to let go of his old one.

As I've said back when the show started, and others have said since: the whole concept of the next level "bs" yadda yadda "one turd at a time" vibe of the show makes a jest out of what the majority of people on ATS (or at least used to be on ATS) consider to be a very serious pursuit of the truth.

Most of the people, IMO, that take this pursuit as important are probably quite turned off by this development.

It used to be totally about denying ignorance, by determining the truth. Now it seems to be going in the direction of "get the page views by whatever means necessary" and if that means making what was once serious and almost academic collaboration into the next version of entertainment then so be it.

Another reason, totally my opinion, is NLBS just isn't that good, and tries way too hard. And I'm sure I speak for many when I point out there is a direct corellation between over usage of curse words and loss of respect and credibility.

ETA: and that it points out the seemingly dual moderation in that we get warnings for cursing through written posts, but so long as operators are on board with NLBS they can spew it out without any reprimand

I'm here at ATS to avoid the bias of a single viewpoint.

I have had enough of the force-fed opinions of politicians,
agenda driven media talking heads, clergy, and/or the politically biased
viewpoints of am radio jockeys.

So thx for the effort ATS, but I'm a member here to avoid this
type of media...not endorse it

I might be more likely to watch it if it wasn't plastered everywhere.

Sometimes, less is more.

It seems to me that NLBS is not getting adequate support. ...

User generated content.

Joe is a member of ATS.

Yes, I know.

It is down to other users/members to show interest in site media which then should generate repeat content. If there's no interest then there should be no repeat content.

There seems to be a lot of interest and support for NLBS though, as shown in this thread.

I'm not sure that does fall under that actually, he wasn't banned.
I just wondered whether he was a member beforehand is all.
I guess I'll just take your word for it.

I haven't watched every single episode of NLBS, but I have watched a good many. What I personally enjoy is comparing Joe, from episode one, to Joe now. He's getting his "sea legs", so to speak. That nervous kid we saw in episode one, stuttering and obviously scared out of his wits is now much more comfortable in front of the camera.

Had anyone paused to think that SkepticOverlord had publicly said that he wants to make ATS much more socially dynamic and that NLBS is simply an experiment / stepping stone on that path?

I'm not sure about other people's views on the matter, however, I have never particularly cared for NLBS. Why? Because of a few reasons, the main one being that it seems like a platform for the presenter to vent their own views. It's biased, opinionated, and very much insulting. It's almost always on the main page, but only has a few pages of it's own, meaning people flag it, because... they can apparently. Secondly, it seems like a propaganda tool for the site. Is this REALLY what the site owners operators think? Is this the line that's being supported by the admins? The person regularly preaches about topics that they really don't seem to understand, and when they don't, they tend to ridicule. The videos are NOT educational, OR inspiring. They seem more like little rants that belong in the rant forum, not on the first page acting like something more than an individuals opinion pulpit.

I just don't like the attitude and how anyone who disagrees is portrayed as stupid. I checked it out, there's many ways one can get their point across without acting like a tough guy.

Not clicking on that ever again.

This is like watching people write letters about a show they don't like and getting all steamed up about it - when NOBODY is making them watch it.

ATS community: We're anti censorship - but we would really like you to censor the NLBS stuff cuz we don't like change....

I just decided to see what it's all about. Didn't like it. Posters are free to voice their opinions, even if they're not in favor of the system. And to be honest, there is censorship that happens on this site but since I don't want to offend anyone or become a victim of said censorship I'll leave it at that.

Of course there is censorship here...

There is censoring at my house as well..

Here we censor about the same things I do in my home

Porn
Gore
Personal attacks
and
Anything violating the T&C

Strangely thousands of others manage to post within the very clear guidelines and have no problems.

What you are calling censoring, is nothing more than a set of rules for a PRIVATELY OWNED site. Same as the rules in my home.

You violate the rules in my home, I kick your butt out the door.

You violate the rules on ATS, it gets removed.

I just realized that ATS is kinder than my home.. LMAO

I don't need the attitude just because you have a status. Obviously posters can't voice their opinions on this matter. Enjoy your bs.

You agreed to the standards when you created your account and accepted the Terms and Conditions. It's all painfully clear and easy to get. We have rules for a variety of reasons, many of which are to protect our members from legal woes. Then there is the issue that we don't require people to be 18 to join.

And, yes, I know the next post is "Why not just make ATS all adult?" and the answer to that is that there are already tens of thousands of adult oriented sites on the Internet. ATS need not join them.

Is see plenty of people voicing their opinions. Too bad some don't know what the 1st is about, or conveniently ignore the fact that it's about the limitations gov't can put on free speech. NOT what a private entity can do.

Yet you did post your opinion... No one here prevented that... You have proven yourself wrong.

Most people misuse the term censor, no shame in that as it is perhaps one of the least understood concepts on forum boards.

The way to remember it simply is this. Freedom of speech, as stated in the Constitution, pertains ONLY to the government. Individuals may set their own standards on their own property. Business owners may set their own standards in their business and Internet forum owners may set their own standards on their sites. The only real restrictions to this falls under the discrimination standards.

Easy Peasy

Don't be sarcastic with me. It isn't needed. Sure posters can voice their opinions over NLBS but they'll be attacked every which way just for saying it. Denying ignorance doesn't mean being shamed into thinking something is good. and honestly I'm not changing my opinion just because you're in charge of an internet control panel. Good day, bad day, who cares.
