Nothing here really to add but...........Tokyo is the largest city in the world by far with over 37 million people.

Not Shanghai.

Quick! To the Wikipedia page, to edit it.

wikipedia: List of cities proper by population

Because on this page, Tokyo isn't even in the top ten. Hell it, barely made the top twenty coming in at number nineteen.

Cute, but still the thread name implies much more. Had me going there for a second (but it didn't make sense, so I didn't really believe the thread name meant what it said).

But the Facts™, all the facts! Did you know Shanghai was the largest city in the world? That Hello Kitty had it's own airline. That it was a Japanese company?

So we can clearly state that the US has been invaded by China via all the imported products.

But none of them are as insidious as Hello Kitty.

Your looking at the "city proper" designation, which does not include suburbs. As we all know, when we speak of a city, generally speaking we are also speaking of its suburbs. Do we not consider Queens to be a part of New York?

Even the article you posted links to other wiki articles showing Toyko to be by far the largest when we are simply not considering the city core.

Sure! And we can say that Guinness has invaded Japan.

Queens is part of New York City and is not a suburb. If you were to use suburbs then Westchester and Orange Counties, northern New Jersey and southeast Connecticut (among others) would factor in to the New York Metropolitan Area overall population of 23,000,000.

And this is a direct quote from your article.

This definition does not give an accurate picture of the urban area or metropolitan area of cities. Using This strictly administrative definition, many cities will be included on this list that are smaller than their urban area. For example, many cities in China will be included since they govern territory that extends well beyond the traditional "city proper" into suburban and rural sometimes including other smaller urban areas. Many cities will also be excluded, including cities in Australia that lack any central administrative government.

And another Wikipedia article that takes into account all areas of a city, not simply its administrative core:en.wikipedia.org...

This clearly shows when the whole of the city is taken into account, Tokyo is by far and ahead the most populous, with over 10 million more people than the second place city, Shanghai.

... so you're saying ... we don't have to edit the wiki page after all. Sweet.

Shanghai at night.
