Israeli security sources said Sunday that Hamas has arrested five suspects in the firing of a rocket from the coastal territory into southern Israel over the weekend.
The rocket fired into the Eshkol Regional Council was just the second such projectile fired at Israel since the end of Operation Protective Edge on August 26.
According to the sources, Hamas denies that its operatives were behind the rocket fire.
They added that Hamas remains committed to maintaining quiet on the border and finding those responsible for the rocket fire.
Israel closed the crossings into Gaza on Sunday morning as a result of the fire.
Hamas said that the Israeli move was a violation of the cease-fire agreement which ended Operation Protective Edge.
"The popular will was exercised throughout our occupied land, and culminated in the heroic operation by the Qassam Brigades in imprisoning the three settlers in Hebron," he said, referring to Hamas's armed wing.
Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal, who is in exile in Qatar, denied knowledge of the abduction but praised its perpetrators.

another thing that people seem to forget that the very thing that started the whole war in gaza this time was the kidnapping and murder of the three teens in Israel before anybody says that hamas didn't do it, hamas admitted to it being one of their command leaders and the qassam brigades , they also claimed they didn't authorize it. but turned around and praised them for doing it.

People here may not come out and say they support hamas but they sure do try to make excuses for their actions.
No talks of HAMAS's broken down old charter, that they no longer abide by, please.
In 2010 Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal stated that the Charter is "a piece of history and no longer relevant, but cannot be changed for internal reasons.
Instead it has moved to a more secular stance.[8] In 2008, the Hamas leader in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, stated that Hamas would agree to accept a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, and to offer a long-term truce with Israel.[10] In contrast to this, Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar stated that any talk of the 1967 lines is "just a phase" until Hamas has a chance to "regain the land...even if we [Hamas] have to do so inch by inch."[11] Other Hamas leaders, including Ismail Haniyah and Khaled Meshaal have also stated repeatedly that "Palestine – from the [Jordan] River to the [Mediterranean] Sea, from its north to its south – is our land, our right, and our homeland. There will be no relinquishing or forsaking even an inch or small part of it,"[12] and that "we shall not relinquish the Islamic waqf on the land of Palestine, and Jerusalem shall not be divided into Western and Eastern Jerusalem. Jerusalem is a single united [city], and Palestine stretches from the Mediterranean Sea to the Jordan River, and from Naqoura [Rosh Ha-Niqra] to Umm Al-Rashrash [Eilat] in the south."[13][14]
