Jerusalem Post Source!

In a move that negates the idea that Hamas isn't looking for the peace process to prevail, Hamas has arrested 5 people over the recent rocket fire that caused Israel to close Gaza borders!

Israeli security sources said Sunday that Hamas has arrested five suspects in the firing of a rocket from the coastal territory into southern Israel over the weekend.

The rocket fired into the Eshkol Regional Council was just the second such projectile fired at Israel since the end of Operation Protective Edge on August 26.

According to the sources, Hamas denies that its operatives were behind the rocket fire.

They added that Hamas remains committed to maintaining quiet on the border and finding those responsible for the rocket fire.

Border closure thread - Courtesy of Daas Kapital!

I have yet to leave a comment on Daas' thread, but I did notice a lot of attempts to derail from discussing the illegality of closing the borders, & a lot of "they want Israel wiped off the map" nonsense.

Israel closed the crossings into Gaza on Sunday morning as a result of the fire.

Hamas said that the Israeli move was a violation of the cease-fire agreement which ended Operation Protective Edge.

There is another Article over at Haaretz that may divulge more information, but I refuse to subscribe to their website, that's not free Media.

No talks of HAMAS's broken down old charter, that they no longer abide by, please.

Only relevant discussion is welcome.

Sadly the "brigade" will say that this is a publicity stunt and will still try and say that hamas are not willing to work toward peace.

I wouldn't be surprised if Israeli assets are responsible for the attack. Israel needs some sympathy since the world has realized how much of a terrorist regime they actually are.

Most probably pal.

Hamas cannot do anything right according to some, it'll be interesting to see where this debate ends up!

As for Israeli involvement, I'd agree if it was a larger attack, something people would get behind them for if they acted in "self defence", so to speak.

It's too small scale, and with their current collective punishment in West Bank its to be expected that someone would react with a poorly devised rocket plan.

Hamas probably arrested them so they could give them awards and high honors.
Their goal is the destruction if Israel, nobody could ever forget that no matter how one pleads for it to be not included in their thread as if it just magically goes away.
So they send a few militants out to fire rockets to get Israel to shut border, then cry foul after making fake arrests.
If they arrested them and then handed them over to Israel then it would be legitimate. Israel should get to interrogate the perpetrators to ascertain who ordered them to fire rockets, where they got their rockets etc.

Israel seems to have a simple clear policy, no rockets means open border.

I think when the shells are flying and flattening gaza hamas goal is survival as with any human being.

One can see the obvious atrocities at work without being pro hamas or anti semantic or any stance political or religion oriented as this isn't a political issue but an issue of human morality.

that's what terrorist do, play little games and pretend that they are being unfairly targeted.
if they hand them over to israel fine, i believe them. if they have proof.

for all we know it's one of the hundreds of Fatah activists on suspicion of "collaboration" rounded up by hamas.

another thing that people seem to forget that the very thing that started the whole war in gaza this time was the kidnapping and murder of the three teens in Israel before anybody says that hamas didn't do it, hamas admitted to it being one of their command leaders and the qassam brigades , they also claimed they didn't authorize it. but turned around and praised them for doing it.

from a Thomson Reuters report, ran by CBC news. in Aug 2014

"The popular will was exercised throughout our occupied land, and culminated in the heroic operation by the Qassam Brigades in imprisoning the three settlers in Hebron," he said, referring to Hamas's armed wing.

Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal, who is in exile in Qatar, denied knowledge of the abduction but praised its perpetrators.

these are the people you support. they don't want peace they want to take over the entire land.

First of all, I've never read anyone on ATS supporting Hamas. Never.
But I doubt Hamas was the reason for the latest Zionist massacre on Gaza. To me Hamas are basically acting like the democratically toughest most criminal thugs in a prison we call Gaza. How do you expect them to behave differently in a prison ??

You see, Israel needs a war every now and then. The people in power in Israel don't want peace with the Palestinians, just read the Likud Charter. And besides, let's please stop with Israel being the victim, they are the aggressor and the illegally occupying force in Palestine.

People here may not come out and say they support hamas but they sure do try to make excuses for their actions.

OK. Besides that.... Don't you understand that an illegal occupation/annexation condemned by the whole world, might just be the root of all violence ?

Don't you understand that keeping with the building of settlements on stolen land can lead to violence and does not lead to peace.

What's your point? Should America and Canada boot out every immogrant and come to Israel instead to full up those settlements so the Native Americans can have their land back. America and Canada can squatt in the Middle East, Israel will turn into Americanael and no longer be Israel.

That way Israel is technically 'Destroyed' As what will stand there will no longer be called Israel.

Hell we can even call it Americanalostine. To appease the Palastinians. This should defenantly end all conflicts.
And everyone gets their land back! Even the Mongolians, They can have everything they owned as well.

Oh you mean in the last 200 years? Lets give Hawaii back to the Natives. Yeah! And lets rebuild the berlin wall and give it back to the Russians. Cuz we are going back in time no?

I hope you can see how silly these muslim mainstream demands are.

Also if you want the *Other half* of Palastine. Go and get it. But if you get blow up or pumped with lead that's not my problem.

You got a problem With Israel why don't you go tell them to leave. Walk up to their gate and share how you really feel.

It's almost like what you are saying, you make it seem like it's negotiable. Which it isn't.

Hamas was democratically elected I'd rather seen fatah win but they didn't and we must respect the Palestinian process as the us says about it's own.

Gaza is neither annexed or occupied by Israel.... so what has that have to do with anything?

there is no new one.
they also said this.

In 2010 Hamas leader Khaled Meshaal stated that the Charter is "a piece of history and no longer relevant, but cannot be changed for internal reasons.

they say one thing, then say another.

Instead it has moved to a more secular stance.[8] In 2008, the Hamas leader in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, stated that Hamas would agree to accept a Palestinian state along the 1967 borders, and to offer a long-term truce with Israel.[10] In contrast to this, Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar stated that any talk of the 1967 lines is "just a phase" until Hamas has a chance to "regain the land...even if we [Hamas] have to do so inch by inch."[11] Other Hamas leaders, including Ismail Haniyah and Khaled Meshaal have also stated repeatedly that "Palestine – from the [Jordan] River to the [Mediterranean] Sea, from its north to its south – is our land, our right, and our homeland. There will be no relinquishing or forsaking even an inch or small part of it,"[12] and that "we shall not relinquish the Islamic waqf on the land of Palestine, and Jerusalem shall not be divided into Western and Eastern Jerusalem. Jerusalem is a single united [city], and Palestine stretches from the Mediterranean Sea to the Jordan River, and from Naqoura [Rosh Ha-Niqra] to Umm Al-Rashrash [Eilat] in the south."[13][14]

both from the wiki cause it's fast.

It's a sign of hope, but by itself is meaningless. Has Hamas said all attacks against Israel are wrong? Has Hamas declared peace with Israel is the only way forward?
