santa is originally based on saint nicholas (as mentioned above) but he did not give out presents to celebrate the birth of jesus alot, in fact.. he only gave a family a bag of gold, nothing more, that was the only family he gave a present to and he only gave it once. some people beleive he gave out presents alot, but truth is it was only once. santa claus is not real, otherwise all those kiddies who get presents and think it was from santa claus, wouldnt their parents get REALLY shocked about the mysterous presents ? if that was so, everyone would beleive in him.

From the sites I've read he was quite charitable to a number of families but am open to be corrected.

The only problem with your story is that the Santa we all know and love, at least the way he looks, is an invention of Coca Cola. The origional St. Nick, looked nothing like what we perceive Santa to look like now.

im just guessing that saint nicolas was a great man who helped out many needy people but never really gave them anything

but this is just my guess

Guys, guys, guys...

Santa Claus is based on Sinterklaas or Saint Nikolaas, the saint from Turkey, he had black slaves that he called "black petes" (I know, this is bad, but I didn't make this up).

In America they just turned him into Santa Clause since it would be more convenient around Christmas time and ofcourse the slaves had to be replaced by something more politically correct so they changed them into elves.

Sinterklaas is still celebrated around europe, esspecially in the Netherlands, the Black Petes have another explenation now and they are basically white helpers that got black from going up and down chimnies.

IF you really had this paranormal Santa come, he was probably a spirit or a crafty hoaxer or family member.

Either that, or you are trying to pull a hoax on us to proof how "gulible" we are...

Okay then, what source are you using/quoting? Not denying it, my fore-fathers were slaves for many generations just like everyone else here (unless you claim a long line of royal heritage up until the last 100 years).

this year i had a dream of santa. it was one of the most realistic dreams i have had in a while and in the dream i remember thinking "holy poo this is real and not one person is gonna believe me."

You are right, we don't believe you!

If we want to discuss the general history of santa claus, perhaps it should be moved into BTS, because when I come into the cryptozoology and mythological beasts board, I usually hope to find threads on mythological beasts and the like. Not how old you are and whether you believe in santa claus or not.

At 22, I don't know what to believe. In these hard times, this story is a nice way to get a smile ... but what it all comes down to is that Santa is a drunk guy paid by Sears to have a bunch of freaked out kids sit on his lap for a polaroid shot their parents are gonna pay 30 bucks for.

Sinterklaas is St.Nicholas, a saint who once truly excisted. santa is as fake as can be. in fact he didnt even excist till the americans felt a need to combine 2 holidays into one. stole sinterklaas and coca cola made the chubby looking guy for comercial reasons so that the stolen guy had a look ppl could identify themselves with.

oh...i don't celibrate x-mess or any other xtian holidays any more due to over comercialisation. the x-mess spirit isn't about being with friends any more it's who can buy the most for all those greedy kids. nothing good comes from this holiday except teaching your kids how to be greedy and wanting more gifts...in fact they demand certain gifst and start trouble when they didnt get it.

This can be a problem, but is not what it was meant to be.

Christians are supposed to give gifts in the way we'd received the gift of Jesus from God. I'm sorry it has turned this way for you. I wish I could send you a gift this Christmas...

In reading this thread about Santa, does it matter that Santa exists as a physical being? His message is much more powerfull, Love all, share with all, and give to all. If this message is the one that is taught to our children, then when the reality of the physical being wears off , the spirit of Santa will carry though. And for those of you that are adults, do you feel what I am saying?
On a final note, we as a people need to recognize that the spirit of giving does not only come on one day a year. See how your life will expand when you give at random with no apparent reason and see the look on that person or persons face.
Peace on Earth good will towards men is a 24/7 365 thing that many of us see during the holidays but forget that there are 364 more days in the year.

ever notice how all the other holidays seem to have a giving theme too?
Easter Bunny, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentines. were starting to fill in the blanks Id say.

Peace

My Santa Clause is real.

The Santa Clause that I know has red corpuscles made vital by the milk of human kindness and immortal by the whisp of a child's wish.

My Santa Clause smokes a pipe and is jolly because he knows that it is not what goes in the mouth that defiles a man but what comes out of it.

My Santa Clause lives in the heart of mankind and does not require the head of mankind to understand him.

My Santa Clause reminds me to give to the poor and that it is better to give than receive.

My Santa speaks of joy, goodwill and peace on earth and while I am often deaf to him I do believe.

Santa Clause is real and i have the proof he lives in the north pole and has reindeers(one has a cancerous tumour on his nose i think its rudolph) the reason none of you guys ever got presents was because you were on his naughty list only everlastingnoitall was on his good list
Come on people grow up Santa clause isn't real he is just a creation for the spirit of christmas. everlastingnoitall the experience you describe was probably a friend or relation who was nice enough to do it to you cause your parents were seperated and this left a magical memory for you and that what the point of christmas is well actually its about the birth of jesus. Hmm maybe the thought of Santa Claus was so real to you cause it helpped you escape the fact your parents were seperated.
