I didn't know all of that. I was never interested in anything outside of the show, even the other spin off shows I never watched. I never took anything personal when Americans or some of my favorite cars were the target of some of those insults, some were funny.

Exactly who is Jeremy Clarkson? I know he's from Top Gear but what is he? Another person who became famous for using their rear as their mouth?

What gives in this society? A person becomes famous for the stupidest reasons.

"I drive a car. Interesting, quirky situations. Funny quips." This rakes in the millions.

Society is so low. People would rather tune into this overpaid stuffed shirt than care about the loss of their rights.

Heaping servings of bread and circuses.

I've always loved this show and it's presenters, maybe because of its overt fascism. These guys drove through war torn Iraq at one point. A few rocks aren't going to deter them from continuing. It's the English way and even though I'm an American geographically, I somehow identify with it.

he plays the bumbling idiot brit up for TV

a reply to: ShayneJUK

He's not a bumbling idiot- if he was he wouldn't be capable of calling his co-hosts 'blithering idiots' or 'insufferable oafs' when it suits him. Clarkson is quite articulate when he wants to be; and that talent should be left to reviewing cars instead of recycling the same old quips that have fueled his TV career.

Look at his stellar line up of jokes.

"Porsches are glorified beetles."

"Men with beards are awful."

"James May is slow."

"Richard Hammond rides a motorcycle."

A joke is a joke-but sometimes Clarkson can't differentiate between a joke and an insult.

You do know the Falklands are now starting to pump out oil right? Do you also know America recently let a hedge fund destroy their economy for sheer greed? Argentina has gotten #ed left and right by Anglos and they are the whitest country in South America. Just be glad they're reasonable and civilized enough to not resort to terrorism unlike the British and Americans.

I was a big fan of the show and its presenters but we're now on series 22 , there comes a time when the same gags and stunts just aren't funny anymore , for me that was about series 18.

All good things come to an end even Top Gear, the truth is the show is just covering and recovering old ground and is long overdue for a rebuild , I've been watching the show since the late 70s when it was about cars you could actually buy now it's just car porn.

The only presenter I can stomach anymore is James May , the other two just make me want to commit acts of random violence , the show now is faker than Katie price's breasts and nowhere near as funny.

It's time the BBC switched off the life support and let it go , it's the humane thing to do.

StratosFear, I don't take things personally myself, but I do know that I wouldn't disrespect other people just to be liked by people who watch TV, I think it says a lot about his character & about him as a person. I know most people don't care about what sort of person the people they like on TV are & I wouldn't expect them to (nor would I think any less of them for their likes/dislikes), but I myself am not like that & will not contribute to the viewership of someone I do not like as a person.

I laughed a this little comment!! Reasonable and civilised? Acting like a mob and stoning people just because of a humorous stunt doesn't sound reasonable and civilised. Nor does invading another countries territory.....before getting well and truly kicked back to their own mainland that is.

And where did this resorting to terrorism like the British and Americans come from? What planet are you on, mate?

For God's sake, Clarkson might come across as an idiot at times but, as other posters have said, he does it as an act and it's for the laughs so just get over it.

What do you call it when a private hedge fund holds a sovereign nation hostage? What do you call instituting regime changes through violence and coercion? If I raped your mom and then came back to taunt your whole family, you'd do more than stone me I bet. Stop living in the world of mass media where white people can't be terrorists. If China holds our nation hostage for our debt we'll certainly call foul on them right? Apply the same rules to us that we apply to others. Is throwing rocks really worse than dropping bombs?

Blimey, mate. I'm not sure what all that sh*te you sprouted has to do with Jeremy Clarkson and Top Gear. In fact, I'm not sure what it's all about at all. Sorry mate!

For those who don't know the history of Top Gear.

It began in 1977, was made in Birmingham and was only shown in The Midlands Region.
Clarkson joined the show in 1988.
It was revamped in 2000, and moved to it's current filming location.

Now for Clarkson.

This man has nothing but bad to say about The City Of Birmingham and it's people.
Birmingham gave this man his break into television.
I and many other Brummies ( That's people from Birmingham for those who don't know ) loath Clarkson with a passion.
He is a turd of the first order. And what makes it worse he is a personal friend of the loathsome David Cameron.

I dunno, I like the programme There's a lot of jinks in it, but there is also a lot of messages come out in the programme. When they were in the US driving on the cheap, intolerant Alabama rednecks had a go at them toting guns. They showed the shambles of New Orleans, gave one of the cars to someone there and nearly ended up sued. Clarkson is a critic with a twist, there is always a message, but you have to read between the lines.
There is other stuff too, for instance a friend of mine's son raised a heap of money for war veteran's charities driving a Renault Laguna across the Irish sea to Scotland..on the sea, imitating the channel crossing by car on Top Gear.

No, I think Top Gear takes the stuffiness out of motoring Mags.

I find the whole thing funny.
Could this turn into a big political thing again UK v ARG?
Anyhow they are cry babies...they invaded and got beat.
At least the Germans have dignity.

That does happen with great shows. 22 seasons is a pretty impressive run. Sometimes a mercy killing can be the best thing. There must be enough Brits still enjoying it for the producers to continue writing checks. As far as Clarkson goes, he embodies, for me, the classic pompous Anglo Englishman. If he were polite, I wouldn't enjoy him nearly as much.

Jezzer is the absolute dog's marbles. Irreverence is the order of the day with top gear. Yes he isn't politically correct, I am personally fed up to the back teeth of political correctness, and have been since the '80's!

Does he stir up hornet's nests of division? Hmmm, maybe if we take into account the tabloid press' reporting of him, but really?

Having watched the series for many, many years I have seen incredible cultural documentaries, crazy and weird situations, wonderful landscapes, amazing historical facts...and the cars...always the cars.

Jezzer is a little Englander let loose on a big world, and as such appeals to that side of me. He is also however, one hell of a presenter, who isn't afraid of rocking a few boats.

If however, people think that he is a big racist who thinks England is superior to everything else, I suggest that THOSE people look again. Because there has been no mainstream presenter more critical of Britain than he.

And he also LOVES cars.
NO one who talks about cars like this can be a bad person.

It's about why this publicity stunt/ joke is in poor taste. Also why Argentinians have every right to be angry at a British guy poking fun at the plight of an entire oppressed nation.

Understand the facts involved with British/Argentinian relations and Argentinian attitudes toward the West in general.

Seems relevant to the discussion as it's facts about the situation rather than opinions based on whether you like the guy or his show.

As long as Range Rover, Mercedes, BMW, Bugatti, Ferrari ... etc come out with new models - - - Top Gear is relevant. Simple and easy.

I watch Top Gear occasionally and I find it mildly entertaining and Clarkson can be quite funny at times - a bit tongue in cheek and he tends to say or imply things that many people are thinking.

I used to read his column in a newspaper every now and then - some good points, many bad one's.

But he is without doubt a complete twat and any man who counts David Cameron, Rebekah Brooks, James Murdoch etc amongst his friends is definitely not to be trusted.

However, to the point - if this had been some Argentinian TV crew being mildly provocative whilst touring round the UK who had been treat in a similar fashion could you imagine the uproar?

The only difference is I can't imagine any Argentinians having the balls, (and possibly even the insensitivity), to do such a thing.
Its much more their style to politicise a friendly football match;

I was going to let this slide.....but sometimes I just can't seem to help myself.

You do know the Falklands are now starting to pump out oil right?

No it isn't.

They suspect that thee may be significant oil deposits in its waters which oil cpanies are now investigating the financial viability of extracting.

Nothing definite yet.

Do you also know America recently let a hedge fund destroy their economy for sheer greed?

Nonsense.
The Argentinian economy is in a mess due to the incompetence of Kirchner and her administration.

Argentina has gotten #ed left and right by Anglos and they are the whitest country in South America.

What has being white got to do with anything.

And the only reason they may be predominantly white is because the Argentinians themselves tried to systematically eradicate the native population - not 'Anglos' but Argentinians.

Just be glad they're reasonable and civilized enough to not resort to terrorism unlike the British and Americans.

What?
They invaded The Falklands and attempted to enforce their rule on a people in direct contravention of the UN and its intrinsic belief in The Right to Self Determination.

Also why Argentinians have every right to be angry at a British guy poking fun at the plight of an entire oppressed nation.

Oppressed by their own government not the UK.

Understand the facts involved with British/Argentinian relations and Argentinian attitudes toward the West in general.

Please feel free to start a thread about UK / Argentinian relations, I'd gladly contribute.
There seems to be much about them that you are either unaware of or you choose to conveniently ignore to justify slanted viewpoint.
