I hate how people think Christmas is about santa clause. Christmas is to celebrate the birth of our lord Jesus Christ. All the christmas specials are always about santa or Rudolph. It pisses me off. Every company wants people to buy their crap at christmas so they go advertising it as a great christmas present. People who arent evan christian celebrate christmas because they just want presents. Christmas is about giving and good will towards men, not the newest IPod or Xbox. Every year people and comanys are getting greedier around christmas. The big companies make their products so expensive and people are pushing others out of the way just to get some crappy barbie doll. Americas going to hell in a handbasket. Stop using the birth of our savior to unload your crap big companies!

I think you have just answered your own question.
Is this where we are suppose to agree with you now?

At least they havnt got to the stage where they will market commercialism using christ. The real question is, how long will it be before we see ads where the 3 wise men give baby Jesus xbox games, ipods and bbqs?

If that were to happen then the apocolypse would start.

The currently adopted image of a jolly fat Santa Claus is a recent invention of the Coca Cola corporation.

The currently adopted image of a European Jesus Christ is a rennaissance invention of the Catholic Church.

The currently adopted practice of Christmas celebration is a theft of the winter solstice tradition.

All intrinsically related to greed, popular control and emotional manipulation through imagery, conformity and making sure you show no regard except by lip service to anyone around you for 364 days of the year.

Consume. Be silent. Die.

But consume more at Christmas, it's good for the merchant economy.

I'd like to add to MaskedAvatar's post a bit, if I could.

(I think)Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer is a product of Montgomery Ward advertising.

IMO Christmas has become so commercialized because it's easy to sell a holiday to the people who are going to celebrate it anyways.

To the stolen winter solstice tradition, also brought up by MA--Wasn't that the Catholic church's way of 'converting' the pagans?

kaoszero > actually a large chunk of the current christmas imagery may very well have been borrowed from pagan traditions

christmast tree - wish tree: where all your wishes for the new year hang in the arms of the universe

wreath - wheel of the year: items placed on it should represent those things that you with to bring into form by the next Yule celebration.

santa claus himself is a varation on the Holly King who acroding to pagan lore fights and is supressed by the Oak king during the Winter Solstice( Dec 21/22 ) and the number of his deer pulling the sleigh is 8, which relates to the fact that Yule is the 8th Sabbat of the year.

Well i know it's an american thing for sure , i don't know about europe. but alot of catholics in latin american countries tell their kids that Baby Jesus goes around giving gifts instead of santa.And it's much more spiritual time of year for them. i suppose santa is a better christmas icon than jesus(for the big businesses) they can whore him out all they want , without upsetting many people. Hehe could you imagine Putting jesus in half the ads they have with santa.

Jesus giving out a chainsaw!!
Jesus giving out an erector set!
Jesus handing out gift certificates for Spencers! or Victoria's secrets!!
Naascar Jesus , Jesus at best Buy checking out the big screens, while they have a foot ball game on

Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Blair the traitor, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; an X-Box, and an MP3 Player, and Rap albums.

Yeah.......this is a no brainer if I ever saw one....why is it so commercial!? MONEY...lots of it to made this time of the year! Not everyone looks at it as a religious thing...

People should be insulted at what levels these multi-billion dollar corporations will stoop to to sell you an X-Box for $100.....er...wait...But it's $125 over at Best Buy....Well damn - Screw this...I'll play stupid this Christmas and get my gaming on for a heck of a lot cheaper!! Woohoo!!

It's called getting caught up in the moment....It's a show filled with oohs and aahhs....Hitler did the very same thing to promote his fascist agenda to a population of Germans that were skeptical of his intentions - Look how far he got....

You give people what they want and they'll come back for more - Even if they're afraid that Santa Clause may have had a little too much egg nog on his break - What would we do without a picture of little George and Santa?!

And oh...did you say something about Jesus? Who's he?

Christmas is so commercial because Christmas sells. Companies need gimmicks to get us to buy more and more stuff. An alternative to allegedly newer and allegedly better products is the idea of needing to give gifts.

Brilliant marketing tool, holidays. You know, the day after Christmas the Valenitne stuff will be on the shelf!
Such a Hallmark moment.

~~~~~~~~~~
Masked Avatar the Christmas we are celebrating is the winter solstice. We are marking the beginning of days getting longer.
No gifts are needed for us this year.
Maybe there is a sinister driving force behind the whole concept though. Possibly commericialism is masking another agenda (in the context of this forum). What if Christmas is preparing the way for the return of a supernatural figure that will fool billions of people.. cuase he will look like Santa and do good deads across the world?
Just another spin on things.
one word.
money
and oh yeah, Christmas is actually a pagen holiday, along with the tree, lights, bulbs and all that. but yeah, its a christian mixed pagan holiday now seen as a christian holiday.
Easter and Christmas are pseudo-Christian holidays started by the Roman Catholic church in order to mix Christian doctrine with pagan doctrine. The first century church never did any of the things the Catholic church conjured up. Catholicism doesn't even follow essential Christian doctrine because they believe that the pope has the authority to change, takeaway from or add to the very word of God just because he wants to. The Vatican follows the same spirit of babylon.
Since when did God say that we had to go to a man to have our sins forgiven.www.jesus-is-lord... click here if you don't believe me. Satan comes as an angel of light, but he's nothing but a wolf in sheeps clothing. Mary the mother of El Elyon and queen of heaven, I don't think so. She was used as a vessel to bring our Lord into flesh and bones but that's about it. The pope bowing down to idols and communing with idolators, what's that all about.
Matt. 15:9 But in vain they do worship, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
Why has Christmas been so commercialized?
Of course money. A new report in Australia has indicated that Christmas spending has reduced over the years. Shops are now not advertising as much as sales are not as high. Other events such as valentines day are more profitable.
Possibly, people are at last seeing through the guise.. or have lost interest.
I hate you ignorant people. Christmas is not a pagan holiday. The lights are just for festiviy. Although they should get rid of santa. The fat bastard taking attention away from Jesus and the true meaning of christmas.
