The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Stop with the whole "This President is X" ordeal...

can we actually focus on figuring out how to get this country out of the hole it's in?

I think it's just fine to do both ... point out that Obama is a screwup, that Bush43 screwed up etc etc AND try to straighten out the country at the same time. I'm not going to stop pointing out the problems with both the democrats and republicans. Knowing what the problems are is part of finding a fix.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

I think it's useless. That doesn't mean I'm saying that we should stop caring, but when it's a back and forth contest of who's the worst president, my point is that every president has done some really bad crap.

Also, it doesn't mean what they did was okay, but I've heard this a thousand times of how "Name Your President" should be removed from office for what they've done.

The only time, in the history of this country, that we know it would've happened, is with Nixon. If he had stayed and tried to fight his impeachment, we know by what Congress was thinking that he would've been impeached.

They're not going to be impeached or tried in court or anything else.

What we must do is honestly revamp the system. It's all sweet talk and promises, but when someone is elected, they lie and cheat, and it always becomes awry.

It's not going to be easy, and this scenario could easily lead to a civil war, but this is my best bet of the situation...

Once again, I apologize for not responding sooner. Didn't quite make my deadline, but I got an extension

I would like to commend you for one of the most well thought-out and articulated posts I've read on ATS in quite some time.

I agree, the major problem with any form of government is human greed. What you describe in your post is why I think the lesson from Orwell's Animal Farm is just as important as 1984. When the US was formed in 1776, it was great. Slowly, it has morphed into what it is today. And that seems to be the way it always goes. But we still have to keep trying. Revolt, reform government, and if and when it becomes corrupt do it again. The United States lasted nearly 150 years before the cancer of greed and corruption became too great to excise. As governments go, not a bad run. Maybe it's just a matter of keep trying until we get it right. If we never get it right, well, I guess that's just who we are. Humans are still a relatively young species. Maybe by the time we've been around as long as ants, we'll have our act together as much as they do.

I also agree that the violence of revolution is a very ugly business, not to be undertaken lightly. The fact is, greedy governments depend on that. Just like when the mob shakes down a business for "protection" money, they count on people thinking that fighting back is not worth it. "Give me a nickle or I'll blow your kneecaps off." But parasites don't give up a host willingly. Unless they are forcibly removed, they will continue to drain us until there is nothing left.

Once again, I appreciate your insight. Posts like yours are why I keep coming back to ATS.

Funny you mention it...you're posts are a reason I keep coming back too.

I am not special, unique or gifted or super intelligent or anything...period. I see what I see, right or wrong. The problem is I see wholesale greed and selfishness from the top all the way down to the itty bitty crap like this jerkoff who cut me off because he just HAD to get into the gas station first...it was pretty wild...he stepped out of his Porsche whatever the hell it is...wearing a Boy Scout troop leader uniform...huh...

anyway...point is again...top to bottom

BUT...I agree with you in a few ways. We do need to do something and restart. My general hope is that if we kill off (meaning rid ourselves of, not actually murder) the people who want to stabilize what we are, then we can progress. You may be quite right that it will take a few efforts. Over time, the efforts pile up and people progress...bit by bit

hopefully we'll pull it off before the Sun explodes...but we will see

I just hate that we have to go through this over and over...like you I want change and it doesn't have to all agree with me. I just want freedom to be. I am a major believer in the Wiccan rede...as it harms none, do what ye will

the problem is, some people have terrible self confidence and a shaky foundation and have started to victimize themselves (me included before everyone freaks out) and we start coming up with ways to tell everyone else how they hurt us even though we know realistically that nothing they did actually affected our lives at all...we just can't stand being not right 100% of the time. That's the real storm we have to weather...we have to get over ourselves (again...myself included cuz you know someone is aching to tell me off or call me a hypocrite)

I am starting to think that the ancient idea that only a very few will ever achieve transcendence is real. I know I'm not there

thanks Victor

The frustration is, everyone thought Obama was some new messiah,

Never, not once had I ever thought Obama was some kind of messiah, what I did think was it was better him than the other guy/gal. Saying he was the better choice in no way means I thought he was a good choice just that the other could have been worse.

I blame both sides. The dumbest most ignorant slogan I heard last election cycle was "anybody but" I think some people actually believed that. Hell remember some talking heads were even saying they would vote for that Joe the Plumber character. A lot of people like myself have no allegiance to a party or their politics so it comes down to who their chosen representative is on who we vote for. It is extremely unfortunate neither side can ever seem to find one of quality anymore.
